My Self-Summary

Random facts:

-I'm an agnostic, borderline athiest PK (Preachers Kid) who nonetheless retains a strong interest in Theology, though I tend to keep it to myself as most find this line of conversation boring.

-I'm sometimes a bit of a music snob, although I try to hide it. I know that art is subjective, and I don't judge others based on their tastes, so when I involuntarily shudder when you start singing along with Nickelback, don't take offense. It's them I hate, not you.

-When asked what nights I wanted off from my new job, the only night I took a standing request off for was Monday night... 80's night at Uptown. I'll be there, whiskey and coke in hand and a tie around my neck. And no, I don't care that the tie decreases my chances of getting laid, lady-at-the-bar-a-few-weeks-ago, I'm here for one thing and one thing only: to DANCE.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a baker, which isn't as glamorous as it sounds. I know, you expected red carpets and shiny zircon-encrusted scoring knives, but really it's just trading in a social life for a third-shift paycheck. I've had worse jobs, though, and this one should be perfect for when I go back to school next fall, so it works out.

I'm also constantly shuffling through four or five different creative projects at any given time. A couple plays, a comic book script*, another comic about a superhero who sucks at his job, writing songs. None of it ever seems to get finished, though. I recently took my TV and all of my DVD's out of my apartment in an attempt to purge it of distractions. We'll see how long that lasts.

*Note: They're called "Comic Books." "Graphic Novels" are for stunted man-children who think that Frank Miller putting curse words, gore, and boobies in a comic make it "Grown-up."

The first things people usually notice about me

I've kept a pretty consistent weight of just around 215 ever since high school, but I always get "Have you lost weight?" comments from people who haven't seen me in a while. So I guess that the first thing people notice about me is that I look like I used to weigh more? Or people are just trying to be polite.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Authors: Harvey Pekar, Neil Gaiman, Daniel Clowes, JD Salinger, Kurt Vonnegut, Garrison Keillor, Samuel Beckett, David Wong, John Cheese, Fillepe Enormowang, Prissy Dickchild, Victor Strongcock and William Shakespeare.

Movies: Quirky indie movies (Wes Anderson type stuff), Silent film (German Expressionism being my favorite period), Universal Horror, Horror-Comedy if it's done well. Stuff like Teeth, Fido and The 'Burbs. Sam Raimi is back in top form with Drag Me to Hell. Terry Gilliam is the man.

Music: Everything from Lily Allen to the Residents and everything inbetween. Man Man, Why?, Slint, Joanna Newsom, Neutral Milk Hotel, early Weezer (although a few tracks off of the Red album were pretty good), Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa's jazz fusion stuff is all awesome, though I'm so-so on his more rock based stuff. Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan are the sexiest songwriting duo alive. I dare you to listen to Sunday at Devil Dirt in a dark room with someone you like and NOT make out with them.

Food: I'm pretty boring. Meat and potatoes kind of guy, although I'll try nearly anything once.

The six things I could never do without

Music. That's six things, right? I never learned how to count.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Well then, it wouldn't be private anymore, would it?
