I am quirky, crafty, and an old soul.

My Self-Summary

My slightly girly exterior manages to hide my tomboy attitude. I love motorcycles and vintage cars, tattoos, and staying in to watch a well fought boxing/UFC match. Give me a good horror film over a chick flick any day!

I currently work for a graphic design company, but aspire to be a photographer. I know, most young women list photography as one of their hobbies but, with some studio time and paid work under my belt, I'd like to think that I'm taking it seriously. I've always been deeply interested in the arts and love film, literature, fine art and music. I love to absorb as much music as I can.

What I’m doing with my life

I spent a number of years working within the non-profit sector, but have recently stepped into a more creative role for a graphic design company.

I try to spend as much time as possible being creative... embroidering, crocheting, or walking around town with a camera. I'm putting a lot of time into some pretty funky embroidered pieces to sell in a couple of local shops.

I have a wonderful group of friends who I try to spend as much time with as I possibly can. You can usually find us enjoying a show at a local venue, or enjoying a pint on a patio.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at fixing things and being generally handy. I'm always eager to pick up a tool and figure something out. I even rewired a vintage motorcycle when I was 16.

I'm also super crafty, and love to bake. I'd like to think that I'm a good photographer, but I'm not very good a being confident in my work.

The first things people usually notice about me

I've asked around, and the general consensus is that people notice my giggle first, followed closely by my sense of humor.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love to read, but it's not something that I have time to do very often. I really enjoy Chuck Palahniuk, Douglas Coupland, Chuck Klosterman, Mary Roach, Ken Kesey and David Sedaris. And I highly recommend the work of Paul Bowles.

There are so many good movies out there, that I don't know where to begin. The girl in me loves Amelie and Westside Story. But I tend to lean towards movies like Fight Club, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Natural Born Killers, Ong Bak, Gremlins, Back to the Future, Death Proof (more so than Planet Terror), The Last Waltz, most Coen films (The Man Who Wasn't There being my favourite). Zombies and blood and guts and explosions and monsters and kung fu are always welcome, of course.

I can't possibly list my favourite music. It would be far too cumbersome, and you would be bored. People don't like to believe that I listen to EVERYTHING. Yes, everything. I get asked "Oh yeah, well what about Zydeco? Or Ska? Or Doo Wop?" Yes, yes, yes. And funk, and boroque, and death metal, and big band... Really, we could be at this all day.

I will say that I listen to a lot of blues and rockabilly, especially at work. And that the one album that has always managed to make me oh so happy is Paul Simon's "Graceland".

I live for Taco Tuesday at Ethel's. Every other day of the week I enjoy Sushi, and Thai, and pasta and homemade pizza. And spinach. I love spinach.
