My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
First off, hello. Good morning, evening, or afternoon, whichever this is. I'm Eric.

I've decided the best self-summary I can give is to describe the person I'm striving to be at this point in my life.

The person I'm striving to be is lighthearted, adventurous and kind. Able to relate to people no matter what their mood or situation (we've all been there at some point). Passionate about work, my relationships, and my other interests, but with the knowledge that I will never be perfect at any of them. Romantic. Warm. Tolerant. Confident, but teachable. Patient. Careful about big decisions, but spontaneous when it comes to random fun.

I said "striving to be" because I will fail at being this person sometimes. But the important thing is to try, and to learn from one's mistakes.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Carpe Diem...carpe diem...

For many years I've loved writing, reading, music and gym exercise, but I continue to expand the list of activities that I enjoy. I've rediscovered my love of soccer (especially in the pouring rain) and tennis (not in the rain-ball gets too soggy). I've also gotten more into cycling after starting it when I lived in DC. Lastly I'm a photographer and I love visual arts.

Also getting more into volunteer work. More information to come on this.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing. I don't just mean formal writing, such as fiction or stories (which I do love), but anything. Emails, reports for work, academic papers, video scripts, soup can name it.

Cooking, when I have the time. The other night I made a great pan-seared salmon dish with cucumber-cilantro salsa on top.

Staying on-task at IKEA and Target, despite all the fun-looking shiny objects. (Okay, I can get a little distracted sometimes...)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
So, I'd like to think it's my ass, but that might be optimistic. The first thing people notice about me is that I enjoy every day and have developed a much more calm and accepting view of life's ups and downs. Life can often be stressful, but in the end I always find myself realizing that the sun will rise in the East tomorrow, regardless of what else has happened.

I love to read! Yesterday I was enjoying "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. My favorite book of all time is Catch-22.

I like a variety of genres. Some examples are:
-20th Century American Literature, like Hemingway and Steinbeck
-Dark Fantasy, like George R. R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss
-Creepy Satire, like Joshua Ferris and Chuck Palahniuk
-Neo Science Fiction, like Neil Gaiman and James S.A. Corey
-Self-Effacing Essays, like David Sedaris and Sloane Crosley
-Other Stuff, like Stephen King, Jonathan Safran Foer and John le Carre'

Inception is a favorite, as are most things by Christopher Nolan, but I can appreciate a great many types of movies. If you want to be amateur critics after, I'm down with that. But, I'm also cool with just enjoying a date movie for what it is.

I also recently started watching Breaking Bad and love it. But don't tell me what happens. I'm not done yet.

Some of My Favorite Songs Are:

-"Master of Puppets" by Metallica
-"Poison and Wine" by The Civil Wars
-"Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" by Jet
-"Be Yourself" by Audioslave
-"The Past Recedes" by John Frusciante
-"Carry You" by VNV Nation
-"Jumpin' Jack" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
-"Short Skirt/Long Jacket" by Cake
-"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen
-"You're So Vain" by Carly Simon

My favorite beverage is Rooibos tea. If you have never had it, be warned I'll probably try to get you to give it a chai at some point.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
In no particular order:

1) Exercise, be it sports or otherwise
2) Reading
3) Writing. General creativity
4) Perspective
5) Laughter
6) Desire

Oh, and I can indeed live without air, water and sustenance. I don't like to talk about it much right away, but I might as well throw it out there now.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What to make for dinner. The best ways to balance exercise and rest to avoid injury. New and creative puns. Why I am awake at 5:31am on a Saturday morning.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At spin class. Then:

Cooking, watching a movie, reading a book, and generally relaxing. Friday nights are usually my night to take a breath and decompress from the week, and they often involve pizza, Thai, or Middle Eastern food. I'll be more out and about on Saturday and Sunday.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I just bought my dog a device similar to a Fitbit that monitors her activity level to make sure she's getting enough exercise throughout the day. And I'm nerding out on it.

If I ever have kids, I have already promised myself I won't try to attach one of these things to them as well.

The Okcupid god of algorithms says that you should.

You can riff off my profile jokes, even if it's corny. 10 points for trying.

You read Savage Love, and consider yourself GGG.

You enjoy running, biking, tennis, hiking, or any other outdoor activity that we could do together in the long term. This is not a necessity, just a nice to have.

You think we'd have a good connection.
