My Self-Summary
I'm 28 years old, working as a project engineer at a construction
company. I grew up in Washington, went to the UW, and got a degree
unrelated to my work but in something I enjoyed. I like the
outdoors, and
enjoy them rock
climbing, hiking, and occasionally skiing. I enjoy
the company of good friends and family but don't need to have other
people around to have a good time. I care a lot about people close
to me.
What I’m doing with my life
Outside of work, the most important thing to me is rock climbing.
My brother and I have a goal of climbing El Capitan in Yosemite
before he turns 30. This means I need to get better at taking risks
and pushing myself beyond what's comfortable. I figure that dating
is a lot scarier to me than falling off a rock, so it's a good
place to start.
I’m really good at
I'm good at problem solving in general, as long as I have time to
work through things my way. If I'm rushed so that I can't fully
understand things, I'll get frustrated, but I won't give up. I just
keep plugging away until things work. Because of this, I'm not
usually prone to jumping right into things. I need time to
understand something first, but I am getting faster at that.
The first things people usually notice about me
When people first meet me, I probably come off as kind of quiet and
a bit intense. It's not because I'm always like that; it's just
that I'm trying to figure out who they are and where we
stand.
I'm always polite to people I meet for the first time. If I've never met them before, there's no reason to treat them with anything but respect.
I also am generally laid back. I try not to let things get to me, and don't get worked up if something doesn't turn out like I'd hoped.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I generally don't have a single favorite of any of these things,
but more of preferences.
Lately, I've been mostly reading science fiction, and of it I like William Gibson's work the best.
For movies, I generally watch thrillers or action, but do like a good comedy now and then. My favorite movie that came out this year is Zombieland. It's hard to put my finger on why, but it was just this great combination of dark humor with an overall positive spin.
I usually listen to hard rock, metal, and punk. I can enjoy classical or jazz situationally, but it's not what I have programmed on my radio. I hate rap & hip hop.
I like all sorts of food, as long as it's not bland or greasy. I really enjoy spicy or hot foods, so I prefer Thai, Mexican, or Italian over others. I like to cook, provided that there's people around to share it with.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about what's going to happen next. I wouldn't call it
worrying, more like being ready. If I have an idea of what's just
ahead, I can deal with it a bit easier when it comes, which leads
to less stress. It lets me end up being a lot more easy going
actually, since things don't come as much of a surprise.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually, it's me and my house mates trying to unwind after a week
of work. A lot of times this means getting together at a new
restaurant or catching a movie. If they've got plans, I usually
head to the climbing gym and spend a couple hours working on
bouldering problems with people there.

I'm not very good at flirting... it's that whole "must know how
things will work out" part of me that gets in the way.
