What I’m doing with my life

I'm just trying to live, be alive, be present. On paper, I'm a graduate student at York. In theory, I study literature and philosophy. But I try to keep my personal life and school separate. I don't make my studies the sum of my existence.

I'm pretty active. I always like to be doing things, keeping busy. I'm looking to make some friends, and if the feeling strikes perhaps something more, but I try to avoid having any sort of expectations in advance. I let the world do what it will, and if it chooses to bring love into my life, then so be it. Otherwise, I'm content to just keep on rolling.

I’m really good at

Writing. Fiction, primarily, and of course academic papers whenever necessary. I love fantasy and science-fiction, but I am interested in more experimental stuff; I draw a lot of inspiration from authors of the weird like Kafka and Viktor Pelevin. Of course, Lovecraft is golden.

I'm also reputed to be decent at dancing.

The first things people usually notice about me

I really haven't the slightest idea. Maybe my tendency to speak really hurriedly when excited, or the fact that there's always a little ring of clouds hovering around my neck ;).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Well, I own many books, and love all of them to pieces. I'm always trying to discover new films, music and food... Basically, I find it insanely difficult to choose between all the many things I love. And my preferences keep changing! Okay, I'm going to say: whatever I'm reading/watching/eating at the time. That's kind of zen, isn't it? I'll go with that.

The six things I could never do without

Writing.
Rock-climbing.

In this daemonic winter? Cuddled at home with a good film, content in the knowledge that one day summer will be here again, and then I can spend my Friday nights biking around downtown, finding crazy hills to rush down, wandering the streets dreaming of forests and friendship and other things.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I think a lot about how short life is, and this fills me with joy and amazement and a breathless kind of urgency. And I don't know how else to be, or what else matters, besides being alive and sharing the wonder of that with anyone who cares enough to listen.
