My self-summary
I like people who have spent serious time thinking about what it means to be alive, and are self-aware, and not solipsistic... if you read "This Is Water" by David Foster Wallace, and after wiping your eyes decided you saw a better way of living your life afterwards, I'll probably really like you. And if you still laugh your ass off watching Airplane! or when Mongo punches the horse in the face in Blazing Saddles, I definitely will. Especially if you have a dog.

I just got a puppy and a new job where I work from home, so most of my days are spent playing with her until she finally passes out and lets me go to sleep. She is amazing. I also have three chickens but they're way less entertaining.

I love to travel/backpack. Amazing things happen when you throw out your identity and wander around other parts of the world and open yourself up to any and everything. In November I went to Bern, Switzerland for a music festival celebrating an obscure Canadian record label that I've loved for years. I went alone and had my sanity questioned thoroughly for going so far "just to see a concert". But when I got there, and met an incredible and diverse group of people from around the world who had come for the same reason, it felt very profound, and it was surprisingly hard to say goodbye to these strangers I'd only known for a few days.

When it's warm out I like climbing sport, but I'm not leading trad yet. If it's snowy I love skiing the trees in the back of Vail. Lots of the rest of the time is playing with Carmen, going to the dog park, or trying to get things done when she finally naps.
What I’m doing with my life
Staying alive, skiing in winter, climbing in summer, doing stuff to my house... Probably the same shit as everyone else puts on here in Denver.
I’m really good at
Crosswords.
Making omelets.
Finding absurdity in just about everything.
Cleaning up dog pee.
The first things people usually notice about me
There is no way to answer this question truthfully. But if I had to guess its probably that I'm Caucasian.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
Infinite Jest (+ about everything else from DFW), Freedom and The Twenty Seventh City by Jonathan Franzen, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, anything by Sam Lipsyte or Mark Leyner, likewise for Matt Taibbi and Hunter S. Thompson, and Goedel Escher Bach by Douglas Hofstadter. Oh and Michael Pollan. Oh and Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. And a bunch of others I'm sure I've left out.

Movies:
Children of Men, Airplane!, everything written by Charlie Kaufman, Blazing Saddles, Fight Club, probably about half of David Lynch's films, Melancholia, Donnie Darko, eXistenZ, all of the Christopher Guest films, Igby Goes Down, Manufactured Landscapes, all the Monty Python movies, Network, In The Loop, Wet Hot American Summer.... a bunch more but you get the idea.

TV:
Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Wire, Arrested Development, The League, Peep Show, That Mitchell And Webb Look, Louie, Girls, Eastbound and Down, Deadwood, The Office (UK), Curb Your Enthusiasm, Wonder Showzen, The Thick of It, Veep... most things that end up on the AV Club's Best Of lists I guess.

Music:
godspeed you! black emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Talking Heads, Beatles, Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Grandaddy, Flaming Lips, Colin Stetson, Air, Man Man, Murder By Death, Pixies, Frank Zappa, Broken Social Scene, Ben Folds Five, Beta Band, Radiohead, Modest Mouse, just discovered Secret Chiefs 3 and am eating them up lately...
The six things I could never do without
The Sunday NY Times and AV Club crosswords, my music collection, books, Harper's, food, and of course my dog Carmen Sandiego
On a typical Friday night I am
If it's the last one of the month, at the Grawlix show. Or drinking beers in the neighborhood. Or playing fetch until midnight.
