My self-summary
People in a relationship with me tend to do better than they would have without me because I find ways to support them in their interests and seek to add something good to their lives. And I know how to handle differences in a decent and respectful manner.

Optimist that I am, in order to meet new people, I continue going to "real-time" events and participating on this site.

I sometimes write men who don't live in the City as I could live elsewhere if I had a sweet man to accompany me to the City once in a while. As a registered Big Apple Greeter I know my way around very well, including where the best free events are.

As a teen fascinated by older women with a rare inner beauty, I paid attention to how feminine beauty ages well. When I met exceptional women like Jackie Kennedy, Beverly Sills, and Pearl Bailey I noticed they displayed a tender regard for people and seemed radiantly younger than their years -- they are among my role models for the type of woman I want to be.

There's so much a person can do to remain young and vital. I look forward to meeting a man who takes good care of his own health so that we can share many happy years together.

Wishing everyone who may read my profile success and every happiness.

What I’m doing with my life
As an active retired person, I mentor and coach young adults
who have it so much harder than we did when we were their age.

Yesterday (June 2nd, 2013) I was invited to a House Warming Party where I was the only guest invited who was over 30. As a former Banquet Manager, I helped set up the banquet table. It was great to hear about the dreams of these young adults -- teaching English in China, becomine a "Health Coach" (didn't know there was such a thing until yesterday). And it seems I have a new 23-year old "mentee," a young lady with whom I really connected -- these young folks are our future -- and they are one of my passions.

I love musical events and lectures. May 15, 2013 for example, I heard (in person) three French Chefs, including my favorite, Jacques Pepin, speak on the differences in fine dining in France and the United States. I love Jacques Pepin's approach to food prep. I highly recommend his book FAST FOOD MY WAY for wholesome, quick and tasty cooking at home.

Every day I walk a lot, write a lot, and read a lot and I see my friends and neighbors often.

I also work as a volunteer "Big Apple Greeter" taking visitors from all over the world around Manhattan to see "the real New York."

Beauty in all its forms -- nature, paintings, a well-prepared meal, historical mansions and museums of all kinds are among my passions. Most locales have lovely treasures to be discovered and I enjoy day trips out of town.

I live in a small, close-knit community at the top of Manhattan surrounded by parks, lots of trees, flowers, and even wildlife (skunks live a block away and on one hot day I saw a flamingo in our salt marsh) -- realtors call it "Upstate Manhattan."
I’m really good at
Telling the truth: My age is accurate and my photos were taken in 2011 as captioned.

I'm really good at business writing and have ghost-written for senior executives.

I'm really good at making friends with people of all ages.

I'm really good at cooking and entertaining and love to see people enjoying themselves, especially when I created the opportunity for them to do so.

I'm really good at crafts and sewing -- if I see it and like it, I can often make it. As of April 2013 I am working on my livingroom (finished sewing cushions to make the couch more comfortable but still need to sponge-paint one of the walls) to get it ready to offer friends some "Martha Stewart-type" hospitality.

I'm really good at creating better outcomes than might have happened if I hadn't shown up on the scene.

I'm really good at meeting life's challenges and have helped many people meet theirs.
The first things people usually notice about me
are my outgoing nature and unusual level of vitality.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
BOOKS, MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS
I read biographies, history, books on foreign cultures and "how-to's."

Recently, I read THE BLUE ZONES about areas around the world where an unusual number of people live past 100 with no dementia, physical vigor and considerable quality of life. We even have one of those areas in the States. Other "Blue Zones" include Sardinia, Italy and Okinawa, Japan. Daily physical activity, social contact, sense of purpose and eating very little (or no) meat and lots of vegetables seems to be the shared traits of these vastly different cultures.

I adore THE SUNDAY TIMES in newsprint (so much better than online) and read almost every section throughout the week.
Often The Book Review prompts the next book I will read.

MOVIES
I love historic documentaries with old film footage such as PBS "AMERICA 1900," foreign films, romantic comedies, films with panoramic scenery and everything by Merchant Ivory and Ric
and Ken Burns.

I recently saw the new film RENOIR and then researched what ailment they showed he had -- I will never look at one of his paintings the same way again. Talk about determination --
this poor man had severe rheumatoid arthritis for over 25 years. Yet he still painted while in great pain up until the end of his life.

MUSIC
I love Jazz, classical music, disco music (60's through the 90's) for the joyous party feeling it creates, and New Age performers. Recently, I was introduced to Folk/Country/Pop singers like Regina Spektor; what an extraordinary talent she is. I also love opera like Juan Diego Flores singing Donizetti's The Daughter of the Regiment.

FOOD
Loving most traditional "real food" cuisines, I avoid fast food and processed food.

My guidelines:
"Would a French woman eat this?"
"Would she eat it in this amount?"
The six things I could never do without
We all could live without lots of things but the following provide my verve and brio:

Physical Health/Ability to Remain Active

Good Friends and Loved Ones

Books

Computer/Printer to Write

Wholesome Food/Decent Kitchen
(to create new dishes and maintain health)

Nature/Scenery -- Music -- Art/Architecture --
Elegantly-designed Everyday Items (like the Italian vacuum cleaner I saw in an appliance store in Vienna)

Travel
Beautiful places I've been: New England States, California, Washington, Oregon, London, Paris, Vienna

New places I'd like to go: Sicily, Tuscany, Provence, National Parks and parts of the United States and Canada I have not yet seen -- Colorado, train trip through the Canadian Rockies and more
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend time thinking about how everyone wants to be loved.

But few of us seem to connect on the level in which joy is found in a relationship. Perhaps we think the important things in life come easy.

With the right sweet man I hold up my half of the relationship.
I am seeking to give and receive "a tender high regard" within which all things are possible.
On a typical Friday night I am
No "typical" Friday nights -- sometimes home, sometimes out with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
While I dream about meeting my sweetheart and creating a life together, I appreciate the privilege of meeting beautiful human beings I would not have met otherwise. I have met some very nice people on this site.
I’m looking for
  • Straight guys only
  • Ages 60–72
  • Located anywhere
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
I would like to hear from you:

*if you believe the distance between us is commutable and you are not afraid of Manhattan (and the people who live here),

*if you are seeking a long-term relationship with a best friend that could lead to commitment,

*and if you are willing to show up in person soon after a few informative emails as:

a) Meeting over coffee is economical.

b) I am not comfortable speaking on the phone to men I've yet to meet (too much like a job interview or worse).

For the right relationship I would be open to relocation.
