My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a student of English, and deeply interested in the history of language, and the way languages work... for that matter, I'm interested in the way pretty much everything works. I love reading - especially books of the escapist kind - and I can get lost for hours in a dictionary.
I like lots of things: chatting with friends in a quiet pub, cooking with old family recipes, re-reading a book I already know well. I get excited by the chance to learn something new, no matter what it is, and I have a deep, inexplicable affection for quirky accents, spiral staircases, curled mustaches, old Enid Blyton books, and the Oxford comma.
I prefer mountains to the beach; I envy people who are properly fluent in several languages; and I suspect that all cameras, everywhere, are involved in a conspiracy to make my head look a funny shape in photographs. Possibly as the result of a childhood curse.
It would be great to meet some new people in this part of the world!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Taking my PhD, attempting to teach undergraduates about English Literature, and dividing my anxiety between worrying that I need to work harder and worrying that I don't get out enough.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing other people's essays, baking piroshki, smiling at strangers, teaching English, not getting lost in strange cities... I'm sure there are more, but these will do for now.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
