My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
For a long time, I described myself as a Californian expat living in Baltimore, now that I'm back in California, I'll have to think of something comparably clever to say.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm new to Santa Cruz; I came to teach and study creative writing. (Read: insufferable graduate student).

Before this, I was in Baltimore and DC, for a higher-ed staff job and an LGBT nonprofit before that. Both jobs had their shining moments, but an offer to come study poetry on the beach is a hard one to turn down.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I think I am good at avoiding or containing knee-jerk reactions to new or challenging ideas until I can give them an appropriate amount of reflection.

I'm also pretty proud of the writing I do; I have a few stories and poems published, and I'm hoping that my book-length manuscript gets picked up soon. (But then, aren't we all?)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

When things are calm, I the read-every-day sort. I could give you a list of my favorite books from the Western, I-went-high-school-and-college canon, but a better sense of my taste comes from my favorite books in the last year or so. Right now, those books are: Prelude to Bruise by Saeed Jones and The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison.

Previous mentions include: About a Mountain by John D'Agata and The Captain Asks for a Show of Hands by Nick Flynn.

Music: I can't really say any more. I grew up on skate- and polisci- punk, but nowadays my taste is pretty broad. At some point I stopped trying to keep on top of new bands and started visiting music that I missed because it was before my time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.

Tomorrow
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Again, I'm new to the area, so I'm not quite sure what a typical Friday night will look like just yet.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm really into NPR.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You want to chat, flirt or connect. More than anything else, I'm interested in making friends with similar interests.

I am queer (I date and flirt with people of all genders), and I am in a long-term, polyamorous relationship; it would make the most sense if you were comfortable with those traits before messaging me.

Don't message me if you're sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or generally an unwelcoming person.
