Currently, I am in the fourth year of a PhD program at the University of Maryland. For my dissertation I am studying the ecology of mangrove ecosystems. I'd like to make a difference in the world by expanding our understanding of how biodiversity is generated and maintained.
I was born in Minnesota and I lived in that cold, yet wonderful place from childhood through undergrad. You might be surprised to find out that I lack a Fargo-esque accent, but you will certainly hear me utter an occasional "Uff-da". I am drawn to nature and I especially like grasslands and forests. Also I love wetlands, estuaries and islands probably because I grew up around so many lakes. Perhaps because I am a Midwesterner, I lack a temper, I'm fairly polite, and I can be a bit stubborn. However, I do know how to have a good time! Promise.
