I'm an aspiring writer living in California striving to
differentiate myself from the thousands of other aspiring writers
living in California. I grew up in the south and moved up to New
York not a moment too soon and perhaps took a bit to long to leave
it. I don't smoke and I don't drink coffee because I think that's
the only way to actually be an iconoclast, but I secretly wish I
did because people look really cool doing both at the same
time.
I spend a lot of my time devouring stories in any medium I can get
my hands on and I tend to babble about what makes anything I like
"brilliant" for way too long if you get me started. Most of my free
time when I'm not devouring media is spent talking about it.
I used to watch TV for the man finding product placement. Now I'm
trying to get an MA in TV and how it's being effected by the
internet (Theory 1: It's forcing perfectly innocent 20 somethings
to have jobs finding product placement). I've got a friend from
undergrad out here but still more free time than I have social
events to go to so I've taken to just wandering around San
Francisco occasionally.
I'm pretty much an encyclopedia of culture. My dad was a theater
professor my mom was an opera singer and I grew up taking apart my
computer so my knowledge pool is pretty broad. Go ahead, ask me
anything from the indy to the geeky sides of the spectrum and I bet
you I'll know it. I'm a sparkling conversationalist in most
contexts and I look good in a suit. I wish I could have been around
for the Algonquin Roundtable because I think I would have worked
well there.
I hate this question as it's the only one I can never figure out
something even moderately clever for. I get told I'm tall a lot?
I like anything that has character depth and an interesting
narrative...and a few things that don't have those. More
specifically
A)I read comics a lot. which explains why I enjoyed
Fragile Things so
much. I'm also a big fan of John Hodgeman's
The Areas of My
Expertise. Then
Harry Potter but christ... everyone
likes that. I've been reading a lot of Dorothy Parker lately
including a biography of her called
What Fresh Hell is
This? that I really enjoyed.
The
Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay is probably my favorite
novel in recent history. I really like
Guns, Germs and Steel
and
Everything Bad is
Good For You. I used to read a lot of
Shakespeare and other classics but
now I've sort of had my fill for a bit (not that they're bad of
course) and am going into a bit of a sci-fi phase with the Cory
Doctorow's new book
Little Brother and basically
everything Neil Stephenson ever wrote.
B) I really enjoyed
Shaun of the Dead and
Hot Fuzz and I'm
looking forward to
Scott Pilgrim.
Moon has probably been my favorite
film so far this year. I expected to like
Extract because I love
Idocracy and
Office Space but I was
basically contemplating walking out of the theater for the entire
back half of the movie.
C) I really like
Dangermouse and pretty much listen
to anything he's involved in.
Muse and
Ratatat both make me really happy. I've
loved
Vast since
high-school. People who don't like
The Beatles are wrong and make me
sad. It's been a really exciting year for music what with the new
Royksopp and the
new
Phoenix and
the really good
Mos
Def album. Hopefully it keeps up for these last few
months.
D) I'm fairly picky except for
Italian,
Sushi and diners, where I'll eat anything.
I'll go out to eat almost anywhere though. Just don't be offended
if I order the most boring thing on the menu.
E) For TV, because for God's sake it should be there.
Buffy Angel Firefly for the Whedon Stuff, hell even
Dollhouse
finally got pretty good toward the end of the first season.
Sportsnight
West Wing
Studio 60 for
Sorkin. I also really loved
Veronica Mars and
Lost but now one is canceled and I'm
waiting till the other is over so I can watch it all at once.
BSG and
Dr. Who get me new TV
during the summer so yay them. On the comedy side I love the US
version of
The
Office. I'm also a big fan of all the
Adult Swim shows
Futurama and
The Venture Brothers
being my favorites. Misc:
Pushing Daisies and
How I Met Your
Mother.
I love my Macbook as he is my window to the world and typewriter
all in one. Dan Akroyd Crystal Skull Vodka. I love pop-culture in
general and TV specifically. I can't imagine I'd get any work done
without my desk...and that's still only five...
I have this coat I'm pretty fond of?
Where I can find a good nemesis. How to make enough money to live
off of by selling ironic t-shirts.
Lately I've been writing papers. If I've heard about a good party
or something I'm probably at that but more often than not...writing
papers.
For a while I would take the profiles of obvious spambots on
OKcupid and reformat them as poetry.
You found anything at all I said here funny or entertaining. We
like the same things. You noticed the grammatical mistakes I've
inevitably made in my profile but you forgive me for them and will
perhaps kindly suggest I correct them.
