My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
(Note: I am currently in Cali, which may explain why I'm showing up in some of your searches. I'm from Cali and my family lives out here, so I visit as often as I can.)

I'm a geek or dork or nerd or whatever you want to call people who love science fiction, read lots of books, get excited about ninjas and intergalactic empires and Nathan Fillion and Super Mario shaped candy. And I'm okay with that, because there's nothing wrong with ninjas or liking Douglas Adams or considering the social implications of androids who somehow dream of electric sheep. (By day, I'm a budding literature professor with hopes of getting a nice teaching job somewhere other than where I currently live.) My friend tells me I'm a fantastic hugger, which is probably important information for the general public.

That said, I consider myself intelligent (I'm getting one of those PhD things, so I suppose I have to be smart, right?), a goof (or silly), funny (sarcastic, weird, random, etc.), relatively laid back, and people keep telling me I'm a nice guy (I'll take their word for it, even though I have no idea what it means). I like snuggling on the couch, watching movies, going for walks (on the beach, if the lighting is right) and generally being weird old me. I also like to write (and read books). And if you see my pet headcrab roaming around, please don't feed him; it gives him tummy aches.

Anywho! If you want to know something about me, then just ask. This isn't all that I am. If you're not into SF/F, then it's likely we share other interests, too. The only way to find that out is to have a chat. Go on. I dare you.

There's so much more I could say. So many dreams. Aspirations. Hopes. Wants. I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic who dreams of marriage and a family, so if that's what you're looking for, say hello. If you're interested in talking to me, becoming friends, or what have you, then message me. I don't bite (probably).

Lastly, a thing about my "religion" section. Since it's becoming a "thing" for some very public atheists to be jerks, I should note that I'm an atheist, but I'm not particularly antagonistic to religion as a concept. I view religious belief or non-belief as a personal thing, so where possible, I say live and let live.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently at the University of Florida getting a PhD. in English. After that, I'm going to teach college level English. Preferably in a country with universal healthcare.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, school, making people laugh, strangeness, geekiness, and a bunch of other random things like making a profit off misplaced souls.

I also make a mean Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm funny, or sarcastic, or something along those lines. I like getting joy out of life and try not to treat it too seriously when I don't have to. This does not always work, as there are a lot of dumb people out there that like to ruin happy things.

Alternately, people might think I'm crazy. I probably am, but I think everyone is crazy...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
If it's science fiction or fantasy, I probably like it. Doctor Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Sliders, Sherlock (not technically SF/F, but whatever), Star Trek (Voyager is my current favorite), Big Bang Theory (ditto), etc. Then there's American Dad, Family Guy, and boatloads of movies (anything with Matt Damon makes me swoon).

As for food, I like just about anything. I am a big fan of Italian, though. And Mexican. And Chinese. You know what? I just like food. Done.

Some notable books: The House of the Stag by Kage Baker, Crystal Rain, Ragamuffin, and Sly Mongoose by Tobias Buckell, Midnight Robber by Nalo Hopkinson, and anything by Octavia Butler or Karen Miller. There's also N. K. Jemisin, Lavie Tidhar, Brian Francis Slattery, China Mieville, George R. R. Martin, Joe Haldeman, Lauren Beukes, Stina Leicht, and so many others (there's a reason why I have an SF/F podcast -- so much to read and love!). Outside of genre, I love the work of Jacques Derrida, Fredric Jameson, Jean Toomer, George Schuyler, Edgar Mittelholzer, and pretty much anything from African, Indian, or Caribbean writers (yay Postcolonialism).

I've also grown fond of Ernest Hemingway's The Son Also Rises and other classics, which is strange for me.

School. I'm in grad school. What else do you expect me to think about?

Oh, alright. So I think about all the stuff that interests me, including hopelessly romantic nonsense. So sue me...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either hanging out with friends at the movies or elsewhere, surfing the Internet doing research, watching a movie at home, or reading a book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

Umm, I'm a cancer survivor? Does that count? And, yes, I beat the living hell out of it. Cancer try to kill me...not up in here!
