My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
A to B by way of Z through C.

I like em dashes; I dislike social expectations with regard to gender conformity.

I prefer nudity to fashion.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I coax cooperation from cranky computers for the persnickety administrators—Luddites, all of them—at a prestigious liberal arts college.

A half-dozen or so students work for me. This was awkward at first—I am not fond of authority, others or my own; so instead of playing Boss, I opted to advocate for the kids and their interests.

It was admittedly an easy choice: the kids are fucking brilliant and inspire the shit out of me. But as our dynamic continues to shift toward a more anarcho-syndicalist/Occupy Wall Street model I am convinced, despite the ancillary frustrations and difficulties, it was the right call.

This is never what I imagined doing. For now, it feels right. (Although the sooner I can get behind a camera again, the sooner things might be as close to perfect as I have any right to expect.)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
•building IKEA furniture (seriously, you have no idea),
•calling bullshit,
cooking vegetarian entrees people swear aren't,
•dreaming at 24fps
•handling crises,
•illustrating abstract concepts with concrete examples,
•living—when I can afford it—one 4x5 sheet of film at a time,
•organizing information,
•subway platform pre-walking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I had no idea so I asked a friend who-- without hesitation-- told me I'm "a dyke-y Daria trapped in man's body."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I read an average of 1.5 books a week so I am a total bookworm. For brevity's sake: The last three books I loved were Patti Smith's Just Kids, Rebecca Wolff's The Beginners and Elizabeth Hand's Available Dark.

Also, I can't freaking wait for Taylor Steven's The Doll.

Movies: My friends joke that I will only admit to liking films if they're B&W, in Russian and fewer than five people have ever seen them. But they just like to give me shit. I love Alfredson's Let the Right One In just as much as Tarr’s Satantango.

TV: The Wire, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Veronica Mars (can't wait for the movie), Arrested Development, Archer (just like the old gypsy woman said I would) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (grudgingly)

Music: A comprehensive listing of favorites will run for pages so let's just say that if it were possible I could pull up stakes and move into the textures of Godspeed You Black Emperor!’s Lift Your Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven.

Listening to a lot of Deftones, Neurosis and Hum's Downward is Heavenward lately.

I am a vegetarian, but not one of those vegetarians.
I have a special fondness for Middle Eastern fare. (If you know a place with better falafel than Oasis, please let me know.)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
• space/quiet (Briggs-Myers: INTJ)
• passion
• caffeine
• good beer
• Internet
• sarcastic wit
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
analog technologies, anarchists collectives (in general, starting one), Art, Cinema, entheogens, fine art photography, free speech, morality (how arbitrary it is), narratology (good stories, their grammar), pornography (feminist produced, intersections with Art), public vs. private, sex, synesthesia, traveling, urban exploration and word play (humor/wit, Scrabble).
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Unless there’s something great opening at IFC, I am probably at home Netflix-ing or reading in an effort to recover from whatever debauchery (imagined or otherwise) transpired the previous evening.

Really, do people go out on Fridays in NYC?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I love Silver Linings Playbook. I've seen it four times.
