I am smart, sarcastic, and need more adjectives.

My Self-Summary

I'm a ska boy to the core. I say this not because it's my favorite music (it is) but because of how my personality fits into the ska scene. I'm typically overflowing with enthusiasm, energy, the urge to crack a joke and possess quite the ability to not take myself seriously. I love donning my top hat (both because top hats are awesome, and as a tribute to the Rude Boys of the world), heading out to a show and skanking (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skanking) the night away. Now that I think about it, it's amazing how much this describes my personality.

I'm also typically looking for something fairly ridiculous to do. Some people wake up on Saturday morning after a night of drinking wondering how many people they ended up making out with (bad example, I know, but I'm making this up on the fly). I wake up wondering if I actually did karaoke to both "Can't Touch This" and "Mr. Roboto" (at least yesterday, the answer was "yes").

As much as I enjoy just being goofy, I do enjoy taking the time to actually be serious about things. I enjoy discussing, to name a few which are popping into mind, psychology, engineering, religion and politics (that's level-headed political discussions mind you, a skill of which this country seems to have no concept).

So there's a fairly bare bones start to this section. I'll be adding more to it in the future.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently working on a Masters degree in building energy efficiency at CU. This includes coursework, a thesis studying tankless water heaters at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and, of course, learning how to whitewater kayak and making a fool of myself in intramural hockey.

What I'm going to be doing post graduation is still quite up in the air. I'd rather like to get a job at a small green building company in the area and work on designing energy efficient and comfortable houses. If that doesn't work out I just might go into Buddhist chaplaincy or buy a sailboat and just bum out on the ocean.

I’m really good at

Keeping things in perspective and always approaching life with a light heart and an active sense of humor. So, I'm really good at laughing at myself. And you, although I tend to think I'm laughing with you.

Other things I'm really good at:
Engineering (you probably guessed that one from the Masters education thingymabob)
Distance running
Cooking. Well, kind of hit or miss on this one. I think it's safe to say that I'm really good for a 24 year old engineering student though!
Apparently I can make Whitney Sauve snort laugh just by being a dork. Fortunately that comes quite naturally to me.
In light of that comment, being a dork
Sticking my neck out and making a fool of myself so that everybody else realizes that it's OK for them to do it also. Think of the first person in your group to hit the stage when your friends go out for karaoke

The first things people usually notice about me

If I had to take a guess (and the OKCupid staff robot is threatening me so I do!) I'd probably say my big grin and constant willingness to crack a joke, even if it's at my own expense.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
The Sword of Truth series
Brad Warners books
The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy

Movies:
Fight Club
V for Vendetta
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Shawn of the Dead

Music:
Ska
Punk
Ska
Electronic
Ska
Nine Inch Nails
Ska

By the way, I --> really <-- like ska.

Food:
Generally speaking my favorite food is whatever I can get more of. But if I have the luxury of choice (usually) Thai food. If the way to a mans heart is through his stomach then drunken noodles are my love potion. Or maybe my rufies...

The six things I could never do without

1. My sunglasses. Over two years in Boulder and I'm still amazed daily by how bright it is here
2. Music
3. A really, really active sense of humor
4. Other enthusiastic, goofy people
5. Food and drink. Quite literally (and figuratively, of course)

I'm not the least bit convinced that I need six things.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I seem to think most about psychology and Buddhism. In the past year and a half or so I have found myself intensely interested in both of them. I seem to continuously find myself attempting to figure out just what makes people tick and makes the world go 'round.

As you can probably guess from the mention of Buddhism I also spend a lot of time trying to think about absolutely nothing. This is proving to be difficult.

On a typical Friday night I am

In the swimming pool at CU learning how to roll a kayak!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm part of a support group for male graduate students. I use this primarily as an opportunity to practice discussing my emotions. Originally I was really embarrassed by this but have lately come to see it in a different light. I guess it kind of reminds me of the saying "In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king." And if the vast majority of guys suck at discussing emotions then the guy who's honestly trying to get better at least deserves an A for effort!

You should message me if

You can identify the reference upon which my screen name is based. You should definitely message me if you think it's hilarious.

Or if you feel like it. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be offended if Hitler sent me a message. I might chew him out for being, you know, Hitler but it would take something pretty darn serious to get that kind of reaction.
