I am hither, thither, and yon.
My Self-Summary
I'm a Jersey girl at heart, but don't hold that against me. I've
lived in Europe and all over the US, but am happy to be back in
NYC, as I still believe it's the best city in the world.
Life can get pretty crazy here, but I strive to live in the present
and fill my days with happiness, excitement, and appreciation.
Every day I try to both do something that scares me and make
someone smile. Sometimes I get these confused and just end up
scaring someone else, but no one's perfect.
About me...
The good:
Travel is my biggest passion. I have a goal of visiting at least
one new country a year, no exceptions.
I love my job doing Business Development for a design firm. I'm one
of the lucky ones who actually likes going to work.
I'm incredibly close to my big family. I talk to my mom every day
and judge people by the way they talk to theirs. My little brother
is the most important person in my world.
My friends are my second family, and I treat them as such. They are
an eclectic bunch but universally generous, hilarious, and loyal.
Not one of them qualifies as boring.
I am a voracious reader of fiction and, lately, business books (out
of pure necessity, rarely interest).
I've been dancing for 23 years. I still take classes around the
city, but I really miss the stage.
I love kids and try to find time outside of the office doing
volunteer work to support them. I really, really love babies.
I am a huge foodie, and collect/drink enough wine to support the
entire Napa region and possibly part of Spain.
Change ignites me.
The bad:
I love karaoke, mechanical bulls, costumes, anything chocolate,
dive bars, state fairs, roller derby, burritos, bad puns, reality
TV, and Dolly Parton.
I injure myself on a weekly basis, and always in a ridiculous
manner (riding a mechanical bull, reenacting the Dirty Dancing lift
in a cowboy bar, etc.)
The ugly:
I'm not embarrassed about any of the above.
What I’m doing with my life
Living deep and sucking out all the marrow of life.
At least, I'm trying to.
I’m really good at
justifying spur-of-the-moment, senseless decisions
The first things people usually notice about me
Apparently, i have a healthy dose of moxie that's hard to miss upon
first encounter.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
books:
Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay; the Rabbit series
(really, anything by Updike); Atonement; anything by Dickens; The
Sportswriter
movies:
Goodfellas, Goonies, Rocky IV, Royal Tenenbaums, The Big Lebowski,
Garden State, anything Woody Allen (Sleeper is my personal
favorite). That's a small slice; suffice it to say that my Netflix
queue has maxed out at 500 movies.
music:
I've loved classic rock since my dad played "Stop Making Sense" on
repeat when I was a child, and Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of
all time. These days, I can't get enough of Black Crowes,
Santigold, Otis Redding, Van Morrison, Kings of Leon, Lykke Li,
Bruce Springsteen, Department of Eagles, Lady Gaga, Adele, and Ra
Ra Riot. Perhaps most importantly, I will always harbor a deep and
passionate love for 80s rock, namely Styx (yes, Styx), Bon Jovi,
and Journey.
food:
I will eat literally anything and get pretty adventurous at
restaurants, but my all-time favorite food is peanut butter. I eat
it, in some form or another, every single day of my life. I guess
that means men with peanut allergies need not apply. Sorry. I
choose Skippy over you.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my next meal.
On a typical Friday night I am
there is no such thing as typical for me. but history shows i'm
either:
...at a new restaurant with my closest friends
...at a dive bar with 100 of my newest friends
...in another city/state/country, soaking up some local culture,
food, and conversation
...on my couch, in my favorite sweatpants, eating a homemade meal
and watching a movie or old episode of House
...doing something new, whether it be a monster truck rally or a
museum exhibit
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
i'm on OKCupid.
You should message me if
You know where the quote in my profile is from. Or you don't, but
appreciate the sentiment.
You, too, can't believe that you're filling out a profile on
OKCupid and figure just one good conversation means you don't have
to punish your coworker for making you sign up (but you kind of
look forward to pranking her anyway if this does turn out to be a
disaster).
You're Jon Stewart.
