My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
The following explores the relationship between topography and cosmology in an effort to highlight the unique experience of loss that attends the absence of immutability. The thesis within is that the velocity of environmental change currently transforming the Arctic is such that the traditional ecological knowledge of its inhabitants is struggling to narrate the deranged landscapes with which they are confronted, and that this breeds a temporal trauma. Previous environmental and ethnographic research conducted in Arctic regions, while multi-disciplinary and comprehensive, has rendered a detached objective understanding of shifting geological and cultural expectations. This study examines current theories of ecological response to dynamic environments, and attempts to inject these detached narratives with the ferocity of emotional resonance that is indelibly entwined with daily experience. It is hoped that this effort will illuminate the difference between understanding and appreciating the loss endured by the inhabitants of uncertain landscapes, specifically those in Nunavut, Canada. How are the dynamics of uncertainty reflected upon experiential knowledge? Do unique landscapes lend themselves to different strategies for the reproduction of social knowledge? When the landscape upon which knowledge is embedded becomes corrupt an absence of experience follows, not simply a re-charting of geography.
