Hello strange lady from the internet.
You might be interested to know that when I'm not watching cat videos on YouTube, I'm usually doing one of the following: making hummus, slipping dollar bills into jukeboxes, bobbing my head/tapping my toes/shaking my booty at various DC live music establishments, hiking up a mountain, strolling through the Mt. Pleasant farmers' market, brunching, making Spotify playlists, biking down 11th Street, playing Settlers of Catan (or any number of other super nerdy board games), drinking hoppy beers, or dancing alone in my bedroom.
You could probably do some of these things with me, but you'd have to stop being a strange lady from the internet first.
Oh, I almost forgot the obligatory "where did you come from?/how did you get here?" part. Here it is in riddle form: badger from land of 10,000 lakes makes way to nation's capital via windy city. Got it? Good.
What I’m doing with my life
enjoying music, playing with friends, advocating for human rights, etc.
I’m really good at
Wow, this one really inspires humility, doesn't it? Let's go with staying up all night, hiding from people at a moment's notice, and losing money during poker with a smile on my face.
The first things people usually notice about me
A selection of responses from a highly scientific poll of friends
-snap-dancing (Editor's Note: yes, I sometimes do this strange
dance involving snapping when I've had too much to drink.)
-I don't remember. I think I was high.
-The hat (Editor's Note: I actually have MANY hats)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Some favorites: Andrew Bird, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Americanah, The Giving Tree, pretty much all Wes Anderson movies, Arrested Development, What is the What, First Aid Kit, Adaptation, Grizzly Bear, The Usual Suspects, A Theory of Justice, Beach House, The Big Lebowski, Cloud Atlas, WALL-E, Atmosphere, Fela Kuti, Father John Misty, Amelie, The X-Files, Phosphorescent, Kishi Bashi, The Shawshank Redemption, Radiohead, I Heart Huckabees, Beiruit, Fat Freddy's Drop, The Lord of the Rings, Seu Jorge, and most electronic dance music (but not that buzzing, synth-blasting, drop-heavy Dubstep and Electro the kids are playing these days).
I love the social aspect of food/cooking. If you are who I hope you are, I know what you're thinking and I'm with you all the way: dinner parties are the shit!
The six things I could never do without
Well, there are the real essentials, but let's go with these:
2) really good headphones
3) quality coffee
4) my good ol' trusty bicycle (update: now stolen) (update to the update: scored a new, fancy red bike from Craigslist!)
5) tasty beer
6) family and friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
where the wild things are?
On a typical Friday night I am
watching a movie, spinning records, or out on the town for
drinks/dancing. I would be down to do something more a-typical for
a Friday night though--like sneaking into the National Zoo or
running down the street in raccoon costumes or possibly something
less likely to result in arrest/embarrassment...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Okay, so I once took a "Which House of Cards character are you?"
online quiz and it came back with Frank Underwood. I was so
thoroughly disgusted and embarrassed that I immediately began
contemplating exit strategies from DC in a desperate bid to course
correct. That's when I realized Frank always has an exit strategy
for whatever problem he's facing...
You should message me if
you wanna bake pies, go to a show, kick around a soccer ball, drink
bourbon, play a game of chess, go for a run, or do whatever else
sounds fun and inspiring at the moment. Can you please also be
kind, thoughtful, and friendly? I really don't think that's asking
A pretty good rule of thumb is that if you like this music video,
we'll get along just fine:
