But do not think I have no “spiritual” side to me. I do, but it’s totally different from most people’s. Recently I read something that literally brought tears to my eyes:
“Be Humble, for you are made of earth.
Be Noble, for you are made of stars.” - Old Serbian Proverb
This proverb is strictly, totally, completely true. You and I and the computer you’re reading this on are all made of star dust. Our carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and iron were forged in ancient supernova, billions of years ago. We share a connection to the larger universe out there, for it is where we come from. As Neil Degrasse Tyson says, "We are in the Universe, but the Universe is also within us."
Nerd and a geek (there is a difference). Lover of movies with a huge DVD collection. Lover of books ditto. Lover of manga and anime and sushi (nom nom nom nom)! Enjoy hiking, camping, nature in general. Big on water harvesting and the green movement and social justice. Also, of course, astronomy, stargazing math, physics, and computers. Many odd board games adorn my shelves. There have been credible rumors of unexplained Steampunk activities. I have so many different interests and hobbies that I don’t have time for them all. (Is it a strategic mistake at this stage to admit that I still play with LEGO's?) Meh. "Life is too important to waste it by growing up."
I’m smart (not to brag), funny (so I’m told), weird (obviously), artistic (I like to think), irreverent (ask my boss), and an acquired taste (ask my Ex). But it all works for me. Mostly.
Starting over at 50. Marriage went the way of Mitt Romney about two years ago (has it really been that long? "Time Flies when Something Sucks"). Opinions differ as to the most important root cause (as they do). But my wonderful daughter would not be here without the marriage so I wouldn’t change a second of any of it!
One would think that such an unfortunate (and surprising) turn of events would leave me devastated. Oddly enough, I now feel a great deal of Freedom and Hope for the Future. Whodathunkit? By all indications, my 2nd half-century shall be even better than the first!
I shall prevail in the end! If I have not yet prevailed, it simply means that today is not yet the end.
