Hi there & congratulations- you have stumbled upon one of the
few princes among the many toads!
I am a guy who is pretty settled in his career and escaped graduate
school, most likely for the last time, a few years back. I have
multiple degrees/licenses in psychology (I work as an Educational
Psychologist, School Psychologist and Licensed Marriage &
Family Therapist), but also find so many other things interesting.
As a textbook escapee, these days I love to get out and be active.
I enjoy going to the city (fairs, museums, music, movies), as much
as I do hiking in the Santa Cruz mountains and being at the ocean.
Parallel to psychology, I enjoy a mixture of art & science.
Been trying to play guitar more and working on my Spanish and
Japanese. And, of course, the endless carpentry projects. Although
I have a sport cycle and fast car, I've have filled too many police
quotas to take advantage of them, and commute with the 'econobox'!
I exercise daily even if I don't always have much time. I hike,
walk/run, yoga, weights, and lift vegie-burgers. Because of years
of rollerblading, I started ice-skating. Although I reside in
Boulder Creek, I work in the Southbay and visit friends and family
weekly down on the peninsula and southbay.
*In case you miss my caveat at the bottom of my profile, I am a
person with many layers and it takes awhile to really know me. Some
people 'get me' pretty quickly, while others don't give the real
time to see the other, sometimes better sides ( as you can tell,
this has been a source of frustration)!
What I’m doing with my life
In a lot of ways, I have arrived. So, I guess no worries. Trying to
expand out. Although I work plenty enough, have thought about other
counseling endeavors like genetics counseling or working with
prison populations. Beyond work, I used to do a lot of traveling
and would love to hit the road again this summer. I just another
three years of my life in graduate school ("doctor, doctor, give me
the news..."); now I want to play and find someone to play with. I
am fortunate to get summers off, so come along for the ride- it
would be great to find a summer travel partner!
I’m really good at
I am definately more of a renaissance man i.e. interested in a
variety of endeavors, but a master of none. Have done film-making
and 3-dimensional animation (sci-fi was my thing as a kid), worked
in electronics, back-packing, played guitar with friends and jam
bands, dabbled in carpentry, SCUBA as well as traveling for long
lengths of time in Asia, etc.
The first things people usually notice about me
I take care of myself and it has paid of. I have always been told I
am handsome (I look a lot better than my goofy photos) and have a
disarming, laid-back personality... it must be the Buddhism thang!?
Get a lot of props (and some flack) for my humour at work. Can be
quite funny in a social situation if I'm on. Othertimes, it can
throw people and I ... boring... have to explain it to them. What
did the elephant say to the naked man? "You breathe threw that
thing?" One last thing, although it depends on whom I meet, folks
tend to like me A WHOLE LOT better in person, than email messages
(which I get frustrated about). Maybe it is all the technical
psychobabble that does not belie my personality. Also, I am a
person with a lot of layers and via the simplicity of email, I get
judged on one layer. You have to give it time to get to know me and
then make a decision. Would you really rather date a country
bumpkin just because they are easily man-ipulated and ultimately be
bored to tears??
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have always enjoyed Anne Rice books, psychology, science, and
motorcycle magazines. I admit not having read a lot of books since
last year; graduate school has a way of temporarily knocking the
passion out of reading. Grew up on sci-fi, but enjoy any genre of
film as long as it's good. Dramedies are good. I enjoy escapism and
comedies, thus not a big fan of violent films because we get enough
of that in real life. Some of my favorite films are 2001, Roman
Holiday, Go, The Sheltering Sky, Jerry McGuire, Shawshank
Redemption, Ed Wood (incredibly weird, but all true), Avatar, Blow
Out, Gran Torino, The original island of Doctor Moreau, American
Beauty, Sex & the City, Outer Limits, The Prisoner, & The
Big Bang Theory. I must also add the inner mind of Joss Whedon.
Love Asian cuisine, especially Japanese and Thai food. I hold the
same attitude toward music- as long as it is good!
The six things I could never do without
Yoga & Exercise
Film & Art
Literate souls that understand the inherent contradictions of
Sensitivity to environmental issues especially preserving forests,
coral reefs & the oceans.
Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, slee, sleezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The meaningfulness of my life; the effect of my actions on others
and the environment; finding a partner I can really bond with; food
& that I should exercise more.
On a typical Friday night I am
Ever weekend is different- either I laying low just doing my stuff
(so I can be free the rest of the weekend), or I go out to parties
or hang with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Based on popuar consensus, I am a great kisser!!
... & why do feet smell and noses run?
You should message me if
You like what you have seen and read so far!!! Since I work out, I
expect the same from you. Please do not email me if you are a
professional dater or are quick to judge and are not willing to
take some time to understand me.
