My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I contradict myself more than anyone else ever has.

Well, THAT'S not very informative, is it now?

Like a lot of people, I'm unsure how well I can sum myself up in this little text box. But let's give it a shot.

*update coming*

ENFP, although the Meyers-Briggs is evidently bullshit.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a graphic designer and art director for a hobby game publishing company. "I make things up for a living" is sometimes an accurate job description. Being my own boss may well have ruined me for 9-5 work, but I hope to never have to put that to the test. I run another small imprint on the side, and do freelance layout and design as well. I'm basically a professional nerd. I have also been the poster child for "professional overcommitment," but I'm trying to tamp that side of me down.

Lately, I've been making a serious effort to get fitter. Running doesn't suck as much as I thought it would. Consistency is the thing I need to work on. It would be great to have someone to encourage, and be encouraged back, honestly.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Overcommitting.

*cough*

Oh, all right. I'm reasonably good at graphic design, cooking (given a recipe), writing, and procrastinating. I'm semi-good at a lot of things, but I'd like to master one or two of them.
The first things people usually notice about me

Music: I have what could be called a "music problem". Rather than list favorite bands, I'll just list the last 10 albums I acquired (as of 9/6/2014):

Bonobo - The North Borders Tour - Live
The Juan MacLean - In A Dream
Andy Votel - Hindi Horrorcore
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams
Tennis - Ritual in Repeat
Alton Ellis - Mr. Soul of Jamaica
Eno/Hyde - High Life
Charlie XCX - True Romance
Lucero - Live from Atlanta
Porter Robinson - Worlds
v/a - Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack
Jenny Lewis - The Voyager
The Raveonettes - Pe'ahi
A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Sea When Absent
V/A - Eccentric Soul - The Way Out Recording Company
Protomartyr - Under Color of Official Right

Wait. That's 16. Well, I DID say I have a music problem...

Books: Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Focualt's Pendulum, Cryptonomicon, anything by Heinlen, Lovecraft, micro-histories...Look, I have a book problem too, ok? I also have a basement full of comics and graphic novels, and a crap-ton of games.

Podcasts: Planet Money, The Alton Browncast, America's Test Kitchen, Radiolab, Ken & Robin Talk About Stuff.

Food: I will try pretty much anything once, and keep eating it again if I like it.

Movies: I love movies, although I've gotten out of the habit of going to them very often. Thank goodness for large TVs. with a special focus on sci-fi and fantasy movies, monster movies (no torture porn horror, please), and Asian cinema, usually of the action variety. (Through methods I cannot specify, I've acquired most of the 60s-80s output of the Shaw Brothers Studios, and am trying to watch them all. If this sounds like fun to you, extra points.)

TV: I've been terrible about getting hooked on any series TV, so I'm kind of culturally stunted when it comes to any of the current hotness. The Blacklist almost hooked me, and I recently watched True Detective. I've been known to watch a fair amount of baseball and hockey as well, when left to my own devices.

I'm a pretty ardent fan of fine, lowbrow and outsider art, pinup art and photography, and illustration. I'm running out of wall space in my house. I might have to start rotating things.

My tumblr name is atomicovermind, should you care to get an idea of some of my aesthetic tastes.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Booze, books/comics, technology, DC Sports, good design, good food, board/card/war/miniatures/roleplaying games. (an un-ordered list).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Work, politics, graphic design (card carrying font-snob), games, baseball & hockey (in season), how I'm so behind on seeing movies that I may get my nerd card revoked, how I really need to buckle down and finish Bioshock.

And the ridiculous number of people on here who both "work hard" and "play hard".
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out seeing a band, watching sports in a local bar, dining well in the city, or at a friend's place playing games. Those are the usual locations.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't tend to admit private things on the Internet. But I have some.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're interesting.
You're smart.
You're open-minded.
You're cute.
You are, at the very LEAST nerd-friendly.

You can deal with my ridiculous cat who hates everyone but me. If you take a cat hating you personally, be advised. She's freakin' beautiful, though.
