My self-summary
I am, above all else, a writer. My success at it has been intermittent, but my passion for the art has never waned.

I am a social person. My favorite nights are those spent over a beer or whiskey, with a good friend or fifty, indulging in thoughtful and friendly conversation. I want to know everything I can about every person I meet. I want to learn from everybody.

I kayak, play softball, bicycle, collect vinyl, brew beer, read, make movies, play music, perform stand-up, and dabble in photography. I love to cook and try new restaurants. Unexpected combinations of flavors that come together harmoniously to craft great meals are one of life's greatest pleasures. Give me good food, good company, good music, and good drink and I will be, at least for the evening, enraptured.

I have dual Swiss and US citizenship. My Swiss passport is possibly my most prized possession. I feel like a secret agent every time I get to use it.

I consume culture voraciously and with much relish.

I love the Braves.
What I’m doing with my life
I have a very nice, very acceptable, and very generous 9-5er. I work with great people for a good company. I don't see myself doing it forever.

I write a lot. Short stories. Scripts for TV and film. I've spent some portion of the last 3 years working on the same novel.

I'm trying to figure out how I can get everything together enough to open a small bar/cafe by the lake in Zurich. A little writer's haven, adorned with wooden tables and bottles of good beers and whiskeys, where I can sit during the day and talk the craft with any ear that might listen.
I’m really good at
the things I set my mind to. I am one of those people who feels the need to do my absolute best at anything I do. I am an eternal student. There are always things I can learn and ways I can improve.
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile, or that is, the fact that I am almost always smiling. I have a generally positive outlook and approach to life.

It was the first time I’d ever had the feeling of missing someone I was still with.” and how I can ever write a story as perfect as Stuart Dybek's 'Pet Milk'.

A scan of 'Pet Milk' I found online, for those interested in reading it

You should message me if
You should message me if you want to trade books or mix CDs, and then talk about them over a scotch in a dive bar; preferably the sort of dive bar that features albums by D.C. Post-Punk artists on the stereo. (Bonus points to the bar if said album is 'Emergency & I' or 'Change')
I hope this bar actually exists. If it does I want to go to there.

You should message me if you consider yourself generally irreverent towards most things.

You should message me if you watch West Wing or Mad Men or Werner Herzog documentaries and enjoy talking about them.
