Books – I read quite a bit but the type of book and the
intellectual energy required depends on what else is going on with
my life. My favorite books of all time are probably A River Runs
Through it by Norman Maclean, Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe
and The Great Gatsby. Some favorite authors are Don Winslow, Ron
Chernow, Malcom Gladwell, Michael Lewis and James Clavell.
Shows – a lot of HBO and Showtime. I was addicted to The Sopranos
and The Wire. I watch Homeland, True Blood, Game of Thrones,
Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Sons of Anarchy - sometimes the
occasional Giants game or Georgetown basketball game.
Music – once again I am all over the board. I love the music that
came out of the 90s grunge era – Nirvana, Pearl Jam and The Red Hot
Chili Peppers. I have a soft spot in my hear for classic rock – Led
Zeppelin, The Stones, CCR, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead and Bob
Dylan. I like a lot of the music that has come out of Austin in the
last 20 years – Wilco, Steve Earl and Robert Earl Keen. For pure
relaxation Yo Yo Ma and Vivaldi are always in the mix. Default is
likely whatever is on the XM top 20 stations.
Movies - I tend to go for comedies, drams and some independents. I
love the old comedies from the 80s – The Breakfast Club, Sixteen
Candles, Better off Dead, Caddy Shack and the Blues Brothers. It is
cliché but I love The Godfather trilogy. Blade Runner, Apocalypse
Now, Pulp Fiction and The Big Chill would all be up there.
Food – I would probably be considered a foodie – I love great food
– either eaten out or cooked at home.
