I adore masks and yet value clarity. I love gentleness and softness. I sometimes use boa constrictor sentences to achieve this gentleness. I identify with the trickster god, yet I often see myself as hopelessly straight-laced. I revel in the eagle-eye-view, but deeply respect the worm-eye-view.
I like lighting fires on cold winter mornings. I love climbing things and climbing inside things.
I get high on conversation, especially the kind that meanders around, lightly touching the surfaces of rare knowledge, then periodically diving deep, seeking the contours of thought along the ocean floor.
I am puzzling, palimpsestic, and poised.
Being comfortable within uncertainty.
Being cuddly, massage, touch, dancing.
When we waltz I can make you feel like you're floating.
Someone once said I look like Harry Potter (sans scar). I have no real clear idea as to why. (Does anyone who sees my pics think that I look remotely like their image of Harry P? 'Cause I sure as hell don't look like Daniel Radcliffe!)
"You look like Luke Skywalker," but now that Star Wars has been ruined I don't get this much any more. :-(
"You look like the guy from 'Some Kind of Wonderful'".
With beard, people say, "You look like House." I hope that means I look like a smart doctor and not like a rude, drug-addled a-hole.
I don't own a TV, but I do have a home theater digital projector and a big screen. Old movies. Watch "Holiday" and then tell me with a straight face that Hollywood has not gone to hell in a handbasket. One of my current projects is to watch the 1000 greatest movies ever made. Lists are arbitrary, but for what it's worth here's the one I'm using: http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000.htm
I started at the top of the list spring '08, and I'm up to around 350.
When I was a baby my mom would put me down for naps with classical music playing. So I fell in love with Schubert and Mozart when I was very small. Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, and Shostakovich can bring me to tears. And I simply must go to Bayreuth one day to see Wagner performed. I love most other forms of music - from indie to electronica to punk - with varying degrees of passion.
I love most things about food. Its production, its preparation, and (most) its consumption. Was vegan for ten years, now just tend to avoid meat (with exceptions made for trying new things).
I'm going to add one category here: Games! Settlers, Agricola, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Twilight Struggle - as well as all manner of other games. If you enjoy just about any game, we'll probably get along. (well, maybe not Quelf.)
Why I make my bed each morning, and yet some of my clothes inevitably end up in a pile in front of my closet. hmmm...
The edge/boundary between analysis and rumination. Or "creative contemplation" vs "sterile pondering".
Distinctions between creative release/permission/enjoyment and artful (self) deception.
When "challenge" is a preferable alternative to "gentleness" in an intimate relationship.
How Erich Fromm's "The Art of Loving" (or at least the Intro and first part) should be required reading for everyone looking for a romance.
How to realize "the moment" is happening when it is happening, and not 4 minutes and 33 seconds after it's over.
How to find and sustain intimacy.
Effective ways to speak/write the ineffable.
Effective ways to create systemic change.
And lots more mundane shit. I'm still trying to find my brain's off switch.
(I still do).
Oh, and I also want to be this guy:
You are interested in conversation that aims at the hearts of things.
You are guided by compassion in all things.
You are interested in social justice projects.
You are interested in intrapersonal change projects.
You read poetry and occasionally enjoy using big words.
You like board games and other nerdery.
You have a deep need to grab hold of this crazy-horrible-beautiful world we wake up to each day, turn it upside-down and shake it, just to see what wonderful adventures drop out.
