My self-summary
Hi. I don't understand the appeal of reality shows and I'm 75% certain the Chairman on Iron Chef is just there for free food.
Seriously though, I'm not sure how anyone actually writes a self-summary but here it goes: I've lived in Kansas most of my life and I love the Midwest. Family is a big part of my life. I love to learn. I'm constantly reading up on different topics, especially anything related to history. I still feel like I'm developing my spiritual beliefs but I am very respectful towards others' beliefs. I try to be laid back and I really dislike drama of any kind. I rely on my sense of humor to get me through anything. I can be sarcastic at times but I don't make fun of other people or make jokes at other people's expense. I like to read, watch movies, listen to music, go to the theater. A good portion of my conversations are peppered with pop culture quotes and references but I can be serious too.
What I’m doing with my life
This time in my life is all about trying new things. I finished graduate school and have embraced the idea of being an adult lol. I practice Kung Fu and Kendo. I'm a museum curator. I love the challenge that brings at any given moment but I love building onto a personal life that is equally fun and exciting.
I’m really good at
listening and making people laugh. I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of useless information. I like cooking although I have been known to accidentally burn myself on multiple occasions. Mostly recently, I accurately predicted the outcome of 21 1/2 out of 24 Oscar categories. So, you know, I have that going for me...
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know if I'm the best person to answer this question but my guess would be that I seem a little quiet at first. After a little while, when I've gotten to know someone a bit I tend to try to make people laugh.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
I read both fiction and non-fiction. In fiction I love horror/suspense novels, classic literature, and just about anything irreverent. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Hunger Games, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Watership Down, Atonement, Brothers Karamazov, and A Christmas Carol are my favorite books. I read a lot of history books, especially anything focused on the 19th and 20th century.
Movies:
My absolute favorite movie is probably Wall-E. I love Road to Perdition, Children of Men, The Godfather, Goodfellas, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Back to the Future, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, No Country for Old Men, Airplane, and anything by Mel Brooks.
Shows:
Fringe, early Supernatural, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Community, 30 Rock (RIP), Parks and Recreation, How I Met Your Mother, Battlestar Galactica (RIP), Arrested Development, Futurama, Archer, Modern Family, Cougar Town, and Psych.
Music:
I mostly listen to country music but I like classic rock and a lot of pop music as well. I'm slowly discovering bands/artists that everyone else already knows (Arcade Fire, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Decembrists). I'm also a big fan of Broadway show tunes, although I don't expect many people to share this love.
Food:
Chinese, BBQ, Italian, American (burgers, steak, etc). I enjoy cooking and I like to try new recipes all the time.
The six things I could never do without
*My family and friends. Spending time with my friends and family is like recharging my batteries (so to speak).
*My car. There's nothing like putting on some music, rolling down the windows, and letting everything else melt away.
*My cat. Who wouldn't say the same about their pet?
*Museums. This is sort of my work life crossing into my home life but I've always loved museums and I love seeing how different museums present different topics.
*Internet, specifically Twitter. I don't really post anything but I love the flow of information that the site provides.
*Information. I love researching new topics, especially historic events or new entertainment projects that might be interesting. I tend to research any new interest fairly thoroughly just because it has captured my attention.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I don't think I spend a lot of time on one particular subject but if there is a subject I'm interested in or a problem I'm trying to solve I tend to analyze it until I have a solution.
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends on the weekend but I love going to Royals games on Friday nights (fireworks!). Sometimes I'll go to the bookstore or to the movies with friends if there's anything good in the theater. I am sometimes a homebody especially since I do work on Saturdays.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
As a child I believed that being a ninja was a perfectly valid career choice until my third grade teacher told me otherwise.
