My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
There's quite a lot to say but I'll try to keep it brief. First of all; my name is Bas. I'm a pretty average Dutch 21 year old geeky/nerdy guy who just turned over a new leaf in life after a bit of a rough patch and is looking to expand his horizons a bit.

Overall I'm a pretty laid-back guy who tries to be upbeat as often as possible. Not that I always succeed but then again who does? I also like to think that I know when to act mature and when it's safe to eh, let me inner child walk around so to speak.

I might sound a bit like a shut-in, considering the things I like, but I'd actually like to share the things I already like with other people and try all kinds of new things. I'd love to travel more for instance, I just have to find the opportunity.

So here I am looking for new people with whom I can share the things I love, talk with, have new experiences with and who knows, maybe something special.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm studying Communication and Multimedia Design (second year) at the Avans Hogeschool in Den Bosch. Currently I'm thinking about getting into the videogame industry as an interface or interaction designer.

It's not just because I like videogames but I seriously think that the medium has unique qualities and the potential to create works of art that are just as culturally significant as literature or film. And yeah, I'd like to help it get there.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Hah, that's a good question. Team Fortress 2 doesn't count I suppose? At least I'm hoping to become good at archery and something related to my studies. Cooking and drawing skills would be nice too. Though frankly I'd like to be good at a lot more things.

I do like to think that my English is pretty good. All of this is good practice! Other than that I reckon I'm a pretty good listener. Yes, I know that sounds cliche :P But I just like getting to know people and try to help my friends if they're in need. In that case it helps if you can listen well.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I'm pretty damn tall for starters! Other than that, well, I never really asked so that's up to you to judge.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

First of, if you feel like skipping the rest.
Currently watching: Tremé, Arcana Famiglia and Supernatural. Playing: Borderlands 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Persona 3 Portable, Phoenix Wright Dishonored, Deponia andL4D2. Reading: A Crown of Swords, Machiavelli's The Prince, The Wayward Bus, Tegami Bachi. Listening: currently soul, classic rock and chill/trip hop.

On to the meaty bit. I just love to immerse myself in fantastic worlds and good stories so I read/watch/play a lot of things.

Books:
I'm mostly into the fantasy and sci-fi genres though I wouldn't say I necessarily exclude other books. Some of my favorites would be The Wise Man's Fear, Discworld novels, Animal Farm, 1984, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Dresden Files, Dune, Snow Crash, World War Z, Mogworld and The Wheel of Time.

Comics and manga:
Some favorites would be the Sandman series, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Hellraiser, Ao No Exorcist, Ghost in the Shell and Pandora Hearts.

Movies:
As with books I'm fond of sci-fi and fantasy movies but I like all sorts of things. You name it, really. Some examples: Marvel movies, Quentin Tarantino flicks, American Beauty, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, Gran Torino, Star Wars, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Akira, The Lord of the Rings, About Schmidt, Fight Club, Shoot 'Em Up, WALL-E and I could keep going for ages.

Shows:
Same thing here :P Examples: Mad Men, Fringe, Sons of Anarchy, Doctor Who (though I'm shamefully behind), Boardwalk Empire, Sanctuary, Deadwood, Stargate SG1 (gotta watch that properly again), Farscape, The Borgias, The Walking Dead and Californication.

Animated stuff:
Cowboy Bebop, Mirai Nikki, Avatar (both shows), Fate/Zero, The Boondocks, Archer, Samurai Champloo, Persona 4: The Animation, Hellsing, 5 Centimeters per Second and here too I can go on for a bit.

Music:
All sorts of bands and genres for me. From rock to jazz to various electronic genres to ska and folk. Examples: Muse, Miyavi, Queen, Nine Inch Nails, Miles Davis, Mucc, Streetlight Manifesto, The Cat Empire, Bonobo, Kula Shaker, The Police, Frank Sinatra The Punch Brothers, The Tallest Man On Earth, Flogging Molly, Daft Punk and loads more.

Games:
I play all sorts of things though mostly RPG's and the odd shooter. Some of my favorites include Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, Deus Ex, Final Fantasy 13-2, Persona 3 Portable, Phoenix Wright, Left 4 Dead 2, Magicka, Fallout, Civilization 5, you name it really.

But there's more than just videogames. I also dabble in RPG's like Dungeons & Dragons and Call of Cthulu and I might get into Magic: The Gathering if I find the time. And frankly, sports are games too so I don't mind some of those either ;)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Hah well my computer for starters. It's what I use for 90% of my school work, where I order most of my reading stuff (not a lot of good bookstores around), where I get my shows and music. And of course I like it for games as well ;)

Other than that:
- Don't keep me away from my books!
- Music, can't go a day without.
- Archery. It's my weekly Zen moment, like yoga with a weapon.
- Can't go without my phone, if only to listen music on when I'm on the road.
- Aaaaand my cats :P

And the last month or two; Tumblr...it's way too addictive. Here it is: http://theflyingdutchgeek.tumblr.com/
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Frankly my mind is all over the place. One moment it's serious future stuff or something worth pondering about and the next it's a silly internet meme.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don't really have Friday night plans very often. Once every two weeks or so you can find me in Den Bosch playing D&D. I'd like to do more stuff though; go to the movies, maybe visit a concert, go to a convention, stuff like that.

But I also like to cuddle up on the coach and watch a good movie or play a cool game (preferably not alone :P), read a book outside if the weather is nice and just get comfy, cozy and relaxed.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well I must admit that I went through a bit of a difficult period and thanks to that I used to be a huuuuge shut-in. All shy and stuff. But luckily that's been changing rapidly for the past year and continues to change :)

Oh and ehh, I actually have sort of a soft spot for cute and cuddly stuff... Romantic scenes and general cuteness every now and then. I can turn into a squishy cuddle-person, yeah...

- You think geeks are cool :P

- You don't mind someone who's a bit new to social things (including dating) but who's also happy to learn.

- Or if you just want to talk about something we might have in common.
