My self-summary
Some things that generally make me smile:

- small absurdities in mundane contexts
- a bottle of whiskey, some good friends and nowhere I have to be in the morning
- when subway conductors go rogue with their announcements ("Ladies and gentlemen, this train is now going express. All of you wearing headphones are screwed")
- kicking your ass in skeeball, darts or trivia night
- getting my ass kicked at skeeball, darts or trivia night
- old music videos--the hilarious, the weird and the beautiful
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a freelance costume designer, working in theatre, opera and dance. I work long hours, but I love what I do, which is essentially the business of using peoples' clothes as a medium to tell stories about them, and therefore, about us all.
I’m really good at
what I put my mind to, except for a job I had as a security guard once. It didn't end well (see photo and height).
The first things people usually notice about me
I have curly reddish hair with a mind of it's own.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
Currently juggling Etgar Keret, Tolstoy, Stephen Greenblatt's The Swerve and Julian Jaynes' The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind.
Books I go back to now and then include A Nervous Splendor and The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Podcast addictions:
I have listened to all of This American Life. Ever.
Also, Radiolab, Hearing Voices, 99% Invisible, Love + Radio, Itunes U

Netflix/Online Streaming:
American Horror Story, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Sherlock and the 1970's Muppet Show.

Music:
David Bowie, Brian Eno, Al Green, Magnetic Fields, Suftjan, Beatles,
Talking Heads,
Portishead,
Radiohead,
Hedwig and the Angry Inch...
The six things I could never do without
three friends i've known since preschool
used book stores
public radio (yes, Ira Glass, I've pledged)
30-minute pasta dishes
autumn
my awesome little brother
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What makes people tick.
On a typical Friday night I am
My work doesn't have a regular schedule, so on a Friday night I might be in meetings, painting, at a bar with friends, out at shows, or in with a good book. But like most nights, I'm probably enjoying whatever I'm up to.

  • Ages 28–36
