My self-summary
I grew up in a small town in Oregon spending my early youth obsessed with sports which, not being particularly great at any, later turned into an obsession with music. I attended three Universities but never really decided why and wound up with tons of credits and no degree. In between then and now I have worked as, among other things, a book store employee art department employee, winery worker, airplane part x-ray technician, concert venue security guard, fishmonger, etc, etc, etc, and am currently employed as a beer and wine steward for a local grocery chain. I am still obsessed with music as well as food, beer, wine, books, films and shoes.
What I’m doing with my life
Deciding how much and what wine and beer comes into my store, helping people pick out wine & beer & making sure shelves are stocked with both.
I’m really good at
Making meals, eating them (sometimes with friends), picking out something that pairs perfectly to drink with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
My shoes. I could wear a different pair every day of the month without repeating.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music & food make life worth living. All types of both. I visit my neighborhood branch of Multnomah County Library for movies & books and music at least once a week because these things are also a necessity.
Books: I like books by Henry Miller (although I think he was a horrible person), and enjoy reading all other types from big thick ones (Don Quixote, Crime and Punishment blah blah blah), to more inconsequential ones like the one I finished today (Tasteful Nudes by Dave Hill). Update: that one was a few books back. About to finish the co-authored Larry Bird/Magic Johnson memoir.
I would be hard pressed to name a favorite movie but like many types. I must admit, although good ones sneak through the cracks, I think most made these days that people end up seeing are horrible. I have been on a Werner Herzog kick as of late but recently have made it through Cabin Boy (this cost 10 million to make, how???), Bronson (this only cost 260 thousand to make, how???), and actually made it to the theater to see Her and Dallas Buyers Club. Both Fantastic.
My television does not get cable. However, over the last couple of years I have enjoyed East Bound and Down, was obsessed for a spell with the Mighty Boosh, dig South Park sometimes, & have recently taken to watching Colbert on the internets before bed.
The King Khan and the Shrines show coming up is one of the only I have been excited about in recent months(that was awhile ago & it was fucking amazing). I love Neil Young, Beta Band, any Jon Spencer project, the Minutemen, Eels, Black Oak Arkansas, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Throwing Muses, Thee Headcoats, the Replacements, Blur, A Band of Bees, Silver Jews, Elvis Costello, Chuck Prophet, Randy Newman, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Robyn Hitchcock, the Minus 5, etc, etc, etc...
I cook a lot & love all types of food. I make a mean batch of fish & chips, curry, eggplant parmesan, black bean soup, posole, chicken fried steak, alfredo, ragu bolognese, and crepe or pancake as well.
The six things I could never do without
Family
Some sort of stringed instrument
Friends
At least some time alone
Music
Good food and drink
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music, friends, wine, beer, food, books.
On a typical Friday night I am
Busy. But I get a lot of fun stuff done in allotted times (which there are plenty of) throughout the rest of the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't have a single tattoo and am surprised I have yet to be run out of Portland because of this.
