My self-summary
I don't think doing yoga and liking kale are legitimate personality traits. Seriously.

Part artist, part craftsman. Southern ex pat. Swell guy. I learned how to drive a 30 foot boat before I learned to drive a car. Country sensibilities with city smarts. Heart of gold with a bit of patina. Dry humor. Slightly salty at times in the most endearing way. Miller High Life and Bulliet Rye in moderation. Being a part of a creative community is essential to me. Bohemian over conventional.

Someone kid called me an aging hipster recently so I challenged him to a duel because that's what Renaissance men do right?

This quote sums things up about my outlook:
"Like most of the others, I was a seeker, a mover, a malcontent, and at times a stupid hell-raiser. I was never idle long enough to do much thinking, but I felt somehow that my instincts were right. I shared a vagrant optimism that some of us were making real progress, that we had taken an honest road, and that the best of us would inevitably make it over the top. At the same time, I shared a dark suspicion that the life we were leading was a lost cause, that we were all actors, kidding ourselves along on a senseless odyssey. It was the tension between these two poles - a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other - that kept me going."
-Hunter S. Thompson.
What I’m doing with my life
Documenting it one portrait at a time. I spent the better part of a decade as a chef and eventually a restaurant owner but walked away a year and a half ago to pursue a career as a photographer. Best decision I've ever made.
I’m really good at
Cooking, making portraits, fixing things, giving logical and practical advice to everyone but myself, sleeping through alarm clocks, being a big spoon, taking risks, and living life on my own terms.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyelashes...I have two sets on each eye. The more obvious choice would be that I'm fairly heavily tattooed.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Yes, I read books. Yes, I like music. Rock and Roll will never be as good as it was circa 1970-74. I make no apologies for my love of old Country and Americana. I'd like to live in a Terrance Malick movie. HBO makes the best television going.

Particularly enamored with pork dumplings and pan fried noodles. I made a career making high end comfort food, so that's always win in my book.
The six things I could never do without
A good hat, a good pair of boots, and a camera. Sun on my face and salt air on my skin.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Making photographs. Travel destinations. How to avoid getting on a subway car that smells like a public toilet. That good lovin'
On a typical Friday night I am
Experiencing NYC in one way or another, but generally avoiding big crowds.
