My self-summary

I have a permanent residence in central Florida but sometimes change my "located in" place so I can search based on travel plans.

1) I don't consider the following things to really be "compatible" as far as a match would be concerned: empty profiles, 0%-0%-0% profiles, no-photo profiles, enemy % > 30 profiles, or match and/or friend % < 40 profiles. I'm not going to contact you.

2) If I'm matched with you based on "Quiver" or a search I initiated then I will most likely look at your profile. That means I consider it a legitimate "match." No, it's not "creepy" to the person who messaged me that it is--it's the way this site works. "Creepy" is the message YOU sent ME. I don't know why this site insists on "matching" me with profiles that are consistently 15 to 20 years YOUNGER than me. I didn't design the matching algorithm. I will say that even people who have known me for 20 years have a problem believing I'm over 50. That leads to NOTE 3.

3) If NOTE 2 above applies and I take a look at your profile, the first thing I do is look at YOUR listed "I'm looking for" age range and if I am OUTSIDE of it, 99% of the time I move on. On rare occasions that I'm within several years of your range, I will "favorite" your profile which means I'm interested but I will respect YOUR age range and won't bother you.

4) If you're interested in me despite the previous information in the notes above, then, please, you are welcome to contact me. Unfortunately, over the years I've become so cynical and jaded about "dating" I most likely will never initiate contact.

Now, on to more specific information if you've slogged through all of the stuff above. I'm a white male, 51 years of age, in central Florida, USA. I've never been married. My most recent relationship was in 2007-2008, about 2 years in length, and long distance. We had long discussions at the beginning about relocation because I really can't relocate for several more years. We had agreed at the beginning that she would relocate but when it came down to actually doing so, she apparently really didn't want to move here. So we "dis-engaged."

My personality is calm and relaxed most of the time. I have stress at work but prefer to leave it there and am mostly successful in that. I have numerous, eclectic interests so it usually isn't hard to find one to share. And I tend to keep busy with stuff to do whether I'm alone or with someone. I like learning and travel and ideally combining the two whether it's a trip museum-hopping in Europe somewhere or digging up fossils in a desert camp. I would hope to find someone who could enjoy both extremes. There aren't any interests or hobbies etc that I would say are deal-breakers if we both don't like them. But I would like someone who was interested in travel and seeing the world and in art and culture.

What I'm looking for is, at a basic level, a friend, companion,
debate partner (debate opponent sometimes even!), travel buddy, comic foil, lover, and yes, even soul-mate in the generally understood sense of that idea. That all may sound cliched but then if you think of the definitions, well it encompasses quite a lot. Physically, I really don't have a genetic hard-coded "type" I'm looking for. Spiritually, I'd like to be with someone who has a spiritual side even if it's the Flying Spaghetti Monster or simply about believing in themselves. But I don't handle evangelism very well. I will fight for your right to
believe what you want but don't force me to believe it or belittle me if I don't. Emotionally, I'd like someone who is considerate, compassionate, and consistent; and not vindictive or punishing. Sensually, well, I find lots of things sensual in the right context and I would like someone who likes intimacy and affection.
What I’m doing with my life
Working, trying to keep a positive attitude despite some of the incompetence and unethical behavior I have to deal with often. I'm starting to be creative again after a fairly long hiatus. I stopped most of my artistic endeavors in the mid-90s because of school, then increased work responsibilities and then some family member health issues. I'm surprising myself with placing in some local shows and getting things online here and there. Art in some way or another is starting to be part of my life again. I listen to music all the time. I write it when I can make time or have a good idea that won't stop. I also play with computer graphics and photography. And write. And go to museums, shows, et cetera. I really can't imagine a life without art in it again.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at work (IT) according to most people who observe me there. But, like I said, I've got other things in mind for the future. I like my work, but it's becoming more "un-fun" so I'm spending less time there and more outside of it creating. I like to think I'm pretty good at writing, photography, and some musical forms.
The first things people usually notice about me
My voice if I choose to speak. It's kind of rough and gravelly because of some childhood illness. I used to sing though and did fairly well (sang in a choir and back-up vocals in a few bands) but I don't much anymore. I think the last time I sang publicly must have been at a karaoke bar with a dear and much more talented friend. We sang "Suddenly Seymour" from "Little Shop of Horrors" and people clapped instead of booing so it wasn't atrocious.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like to read most anything--even technical stuff and textbooks sometimes. I enjoy fiction, sci fi, fantasy, and mysteries the most. I like lots of movies even some that most people would pan or call stupid. I like most all types of music in moderation but more and more find myself listening to Celtic, electronic, IDM, and techno. Most of the stuff I "write" is loop-based or free-sound electro-industrial stuff. I enjoy most foods and will try new stuff.
The six things I could never do without
Could never do without? At the risk of sounding trite; other than air, food, water; I can't think of any. I'd prefer to have shelter, music, friends, travel, and a computer included in my life. A WWII fighter would be cool too, if someone else pays for AV Gas and insurance.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Questions like these... the immensity of the universe.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually exhausted from a 50 to 60 hour week so more than likely, I might go shopping, go home and make dinner and then sleep. If there's an art show opening lately, I try to get to that.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a pretty open person once I get to know someone but there's that catch--I'd need to know you before we talked about this question. But, so as to not leave you with just an empty feeling that I'm an enigma, here's some random things about me: I once landed a plane on a beach so my instructor could go to the bathroom. My first paying job was as a real "cowboy." There's a town in England with my last name and my brother and I visit occasionally. I've driven across the US in less than 3 days. I've hiked over one of the highest passes in the US Rockies (but that was in 1979 and my knees aren't nearly that good anymore). My first cereal toy was a purple "brontosaurus" (long before purple dinosaurs were popularand before brontosauri were declared mistakes) in a box of Sugar Smacks & I can close my eyes & still smell the cereal. I lettered in very different sports in high school & college. I used to go to Star Trek conventions with a name tag that read " L'vis AArn Pr'ssli " & the only person who ever "got it" immediately was Walter Koenig. I had a sonnet about hallucinogenic drug interactions published in a respected literary journal in England & another sonnet about cybernetic organisms published in a technical journal here in the US. I've had Haiku on the NPR website. My favorite quote is one by Steve Martin, attributed to Socrates: "Qualis significiamus 'conium e venenifer'? Aack!--" which roughly translates as "What do you mean 'Hemlock is poisonous?' Aack!"
You should message me if
You find me interesting even if you're not a "perfect" match because I'm shy to an extent and probably wouldn't contact someone if I didn't fall into their "I'm looking for" profile criteria.

You are not materialistic (to me that means that it's okay to want and have the newest, neatest stuff BUT not to DEMAND it or FOCUS on it).

You are willing to take things slowly.

You are consistent and say what you mean and mean what you say and you don't change your mind on important decisions every day.

Oh, by the way, my profile name is just that, a profile name. My real name will come later during conversations or emails. Also, I would RARELY ever have on IM capability.
