My self-summary
I'm little country mouse, a little city mouse. I love hiking, biking, flat water kayaking, winter sports (cross country and alpine skiing, snowshoeing) and yoga. I spend a lot of time cooking and tending to my veggie garden. I also enjoy watching movies, reading, traveling, people watching, and learning.

I appreciate intelligence, curiosity, humor, affection and compassion, and I have those things to offer.

Depending on the company, I can be quiet or very animated. I like to listen. I like to bring people together for communal meals, to go for a hike, or have some beers and play games (frisbee, board games, etc). I don't like to be the center of attention, but I will do weird and ridiculous things to make people laugh.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a science educator, fulfilling various roles in this field. I'm often getting dirty, and I'm outdoors a lot. I love what I do as it gets people (including me) outside in nature and encourages me to learn something new every day.
I’m really good at
Cooking- I love feeding people, and I'm proud of the effort I put into cooking (it's been called my "secret vanity").

I have a pretty good visual memory. If we've ever met, I'm likely to remember your face, but probably not your name. Unfortunately, this skill doesn't necessarily help me find my keys...

I will also kick your ass at Chinese checkers.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books- I do love to read fiction, but you're more likely to find me reading a naturalist's field guide or some other form of non-fiction (anything from science stuff to Inside Of a Dog, Farm City, The Secret Life of Salvador Dali, etc). One of my favorite works of fiction is the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I'm also generally fond of Kurt Vonnegut's works, and I appreciate Mary Roach's morbid curiosity.

Movies- I like a lot of dumb, irreverent or dark comedies and cerebral (according to Netflix) movies... and a good zombie or samurai movie on occasion. Favorites - Coen brothers, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Annie Hall, Moonrise Kingdom, Shaun of the Dead, Super Troopers. Classics like Ghost Busters, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Princess Bride, and Rear Window, Sanjuro, The General...

Music- Anything from Led Zeppelin to Robyn to They Might Be Giants. Chvrches has been in heavy rotation lately, as well as Civil Wars, and Tune-yards. Some all time favorites include Neko Case, The Band, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead and Fleet Foxes.

Food- I will try anything at least once. Seriously. Unless it's the still-beating heart of a tortured cobra. Food adventures aside, I like food best when it is simple and fresh.

TV- Some all time favorites include The Wire and Six Feet Under. So, light hearted stuff... Kids in the Hall, 30 Rock and the Daily Show make me laugh. Just getting into Game of Thrones!
The six things I could never do without
1) Social interaction
2) Time spent outdoors
3) Olive oil
4) Laughter/Comedy
5) Vegetables
6) Music that I can sing along to
On a typical Friday night I am
On some Friday nights, I'm cooking and baking for hours while listening to Radiolab or dancing to some vapid pop music in my slippers...

And some Friday nights, I'll attend a lecture, gather with friends, play some bar trivia or, ya know, help mole salamanders migrate to wetlands (not kidding).

Staying in on Friday night to get up early on Saturday and go for a hike sounds great, too. I'm open to suggestions!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Where ever I move, I take my dad's record collection with me (even when, such as at present, I don't have a record player). They're f'ing heavy, but I don't think I'll ever give them away. Lots of Jimi Hendrix, ELO, Stones, Zeppelin, Neil Young, etc, in there. And then there's my mom's Bread album. Mom, you're such a square.
