I am quiet, serious, and cheery
In an extra-curricular capacity over the last few years I've written a number of cd and live reviews for the site Muso's Guide which has proved to be both enjoyable & another good way of discovering new bands (in recent weeks I've graduated to the post of Editor-in-Chief of the site so its days could be numbered ... Drop me a line if you fancy reviewing some music for it though). I also go through phases of hosting random strangers via the Couchsurfing site as well as reviewing bars & restaurants on Qype.com + put in a fortnightly weekend shift at a charity bookshop (which has proved enjoyable if not exactly good for the amount of unread novels now taking up space beneath my bed).
Over the last few months I've been getting back in to taking holidays so have visited Madrid, Bristol, Bulgaria & the west of Ireland as well as the Isle of Wight. Cadiz was my very enjoyable Hogmanay destination.
Food - Thai, Japanese & Spanish. Quite enjoy French too.
Music - Northern Soul, Girl Groups, Punk, Death Metal, Classical, Jazz, Sixties Garage, Mod, Techno, Electro, Indie. You get the idea. During weekdays I mostly listen to Radio 3 as there's less crap chat than other stations. Sometimes I have on Triple J from Australia and having also recently discovered Spinner I've been using that to check out full albums along with Spotify now and again in the office.
Books - pretty similar to the music answer but I enjoy lots by Iain Banks, Paul Auster, Haruki Murakami, Don DeLillo, James Ellroy, Richard Ford, Garrison Keillor, Jonathan Coe, Richard Brautigan and a bunch of others. Generally I've two novels on the go and a non-fiction book for after work. Most recently I've enjoyed Christopher Isherwood's A Single Man & Thomas Pynchon's Against The Day. 2666 is my current mammoth evening read. Still also ploughing my way through Penguin's Great Ideas series. I never buy newspapers & only occasionally glance at Metro but have in the last year taken out a Private Eye subscription so that & the BBC news website keeps me pretty well informed.
Movies - again lots of them. Repo Man is my current favourite of all time but others include Zabriskie Point, The Red Squirrel, A Matter Of Life & Death, Orphee, Withnail & I, The Big Lebowski, Fight Club, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Zombie ones, L'Eclisse, Apocalypse Now, A Bout De Souffle, Korean cinema and on and on ... I'm a Cameo member & also have one of the Cineworld Unlimited cards so between those & 6 dvds a month from Lovefilm I pack in a couple of films a week, give or take. In 2012 I disliked, to varying degrees, Skyfall, The Dark Night Rises, Seven Psychopaths (a particularly unfunny letdown), Iron Sky, Killing Them Softly, The Five Year Engagement, Cosmopolis, The Raid, Dark Shadows, Contraband and The Woman In The Fifth.
TV - Thoroughly enjoyed The Sopranos in its day and have got hold of and enjoyed The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones over the last year or so. Other than that it's Bargain Hunt in the office at lunchtime and the occasional Big Bang Theory if the telly there's on later and the news is crap.
I have a mild t-shirt addiction.
