I'm a writer who loves to take pictures (I always have a camera on me,not just an iPhone). I like to wander around and take pictures, lately the ID, then stop in somewhere for tea, coffee, or a pint etc.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.

I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Keeping calm during a storm.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sometimes remind people of a former Bond actor.

I'm reading novels from the late '80's right now. John Gardner's October Light, Ken Kesey's Sometimes A Great Notion, and Franzen's The Corrections are stand-outs for me. I've also read a bunch of Auster, Roth, Markson, Boyle, Maugham, and other lights on the horizon. I picked up Pride and Prejudice the other day, too, to see how Jane does it.

Music: I'm going through a Dead phase (I was at this one:, which might underline my eclectic taste, but I like their perspective in these times of ours. It helps me get calm. Usually I'm listening to Unwound, The Sea and Cake, Centro-matic, Let's Active, Joy Division, Guided by Voices, Minutemen, Sebadoh, Superchunk, both Elvises, Silkworm, The Feelies, fIREHOSE, Sonic Youth, Malkmus and the Jicks, Chavez, St. Vincent, Savages (saw them- wow), Turin Brakes, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, and Pharaoh Sanders. I love XTC, always have, and Devo as well - I have an okay vinyl collection.

Food: I watched Forks Over Knives and that really changed how I think about food and health. I mostly buy vegetables at the store now and just made pesto hummus that is really good and easy. I eat fish (love sushi, poke, mussels) when I go out and if you invite me for dinner and serve steak, mutton, et cetera, then that's what I'm having.

Movies: big fan of a lot of directors (Bergman, Kurosawa, etc.) and am fascinated by how they handle so much time in two hours. I like the US auteur directors, too. TV: I like to tear through shows that I get into.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Oh, the usual, plus shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How I'd do on Naked and Afraid. Also: narrative fiction and what makes a good photograph.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
at the game with a friend in the upper deck taking in the views and talking about our lives, the world, and what to eat. If I'm home, I am making veggie enchiladas, watching a Kurosawa film or the Vivien Maier documentary, and drinking a beer from the coolers of the Beer Junction. I might also be at a SAL lecture, Town Hall seeing a writer, poet, photographer, or jazz musician, at Neumo's seeing the Meat Puppets, or somewhere else doing some other thing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't really like going barefoot, which would hurt my chances on Naked and Afraid.
