I am musical, gentlemanly, and intelligent.

My Self-Summary

SEEKING: KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR. AN ABSOLUTE GENTLEMAN, WITH A LARGE HEART, CARING SOUL, MORALS AND CONVICTION NEEDED. A SHARP LANCE AND A VALIANT STEED A PLUS, BUT NOT REQUIRED. EVIL OR UNDEAD KNIGHTS NEED NOT APPLY.

I always hoped that someone would post that for me one day, but so far to no avail. Hi, my name is Dave, and I am a college student living in the Philly suburbs. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I like listening to the complexity and beauty of music around me, whether it's a music festival, live concert, recording, or just the sounds of life all around me. I enjoy my local Philly sports teams (go Phils, Eagles, and Flyers!) when I get the time to watch them, and also playing sports on occasion with friends. I do geeky things, like solve logic problems and sudokus, and play board games. My parents and grandparents turned me into a hopeless romantic (the open doors and pull out chairs thing, that's me right there). Since I hang with the same group of friends (and thus not meet a lot of new people), getting into serious relationships is harder for me, so that's one reason why I'm trying the whole Internet dating thing.

Beyond that, all I can say is that I combine the similarities of math and music: both simplicity and intricacy!

What I’m doing with my life

After realizing that college = good, and that dead-end jobs are called that for a reason, I am now a returning full-time student going to community college. I work in retail, ringing up people's purchases. I also work as a mathematics tutor (the college hires me for work-study, and I do private tutoring on the side). I should be going into Education when I start at West Chester next year. I would like to go into music; if that doesn't work, then I'll enter the mathematics curriculum.

I’m really good at

Playing the piano (I have spent most of my life playing it), mathematics (I tutor the subject), being a nerd (come on, D20!), acting as a mobile spell-check for friends and family (bcuz i ken obvuslee spel behtor then thiss!), playing Dance Dance Revolution (up, left, up, right, hold, down, jump!), immersing myself in music, and being around to listen when a friend is in need.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm told a lot that I have piercing hazel eyes.

People can hear me laughing from halfway across the room.

I am usually introverted around people I don't know until I meet/talk with them, then I turn into an extrovert.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

All of these listings contain just representative samples; there isn't enough room to put all of this stuff in!

Books: Kids Say The Darndest Things! (Art Linkletter), Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), The Bible, The Hunt for Red October (Tom Clancy), Lord Of The Rings trilogy (J.R.R. Tolkien), Lensman series (E.E. "Doc" Smith), Dune (Frank Herbert), any works by Michael Crichton, Clive Cussler, or Isaac Asimov.

Movies: There's Something About Mary, Armageddon, Die Hard series, Spaceballs, all of the Star Wars and Star Trek movies (nerd alert!), Transformers, Happy Gilmour, Pride And Prejudice (I'm talking the 5-hour A&E miniseries with Colin Firth, not the 2-hour movie with Keira Knightley), The Road To Wellville, The Matrix trilogy, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Terminator trilogy, The Princess Bride, Iron Man, The Hangover, James Bond series, WALL-E.

TV: CSI (all series), American Dad, Big O!, MythBusters, Scrubs, Fairly Oddparents, Law & Order (all series), InuYasha, Whose Line is it Anyway?, M*A*S*H, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Stargate (all series), Futurama, House M.D., SpongeBob Squarepants, Battlestar Galactica, Family Guy, Star Trek (all series), The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Robot Chicken, NCIS, Monk.

Music: 4 Strings, Aerosmith, Beastie Boys, Billy Joel, Blues Brothers, Casting Crowns, Chicago, Daft Punk, Darude, DJ Tiesto, Elton John, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Guns N' Roses, John Williams, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Lenny Kravitz, Linkin Park, Louis Armstrong, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Maroon 5, Newsboys, Nickelback, Pink Floyd, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, Savage Garden, Smash Mouth, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Weezer, Weird Al Yankovic.

I will listen to any style of music you can think of. Some genres I can listen to without end, others I have only so much tolerance for at one time.

As I am a pianist, I also enjoy playing the works of: C.V. Alkan, J.S. Bach, L. von Beethoven (he's probably my favorite to play), J. Brahms, F. Burgmuller, F. Chopin (2nd favorite), W.A. Mozart, P.I. Tchaikovsky.

Food: American, Italian, Asian, Mexican. I've been trying to eat healthier (salad, lean meat, etc.) since I started hitting the gym this fall. Curse you, good-tasting food! (shakes fist in the air)

The six things I could never do without

Assuming the exclusion of my basic needs from this list (food/water/oxygen/shelter/etc.), then we are left with, in no particular order:

1. Music (Can't imagine life without this)

2. Family (You can't pick 'em, you just gotta love them for who they are)

3. My car (My daily life would suck without it)

4. Friends (They keep you grounded, sane, and act as a relief valve when you're stressed)

5. The Internet (Wouldn't be on here otherwise!)

6. God/Faith (I have to have something (or someone) greater than myself to believe in...)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I think about a thousand different things, each pulling my brain in a new and different direction:

According to quantum physics' uncertainty principle, Schrodinger's Cat can be both dead AND alive at the same time.

Beethoven had a metal piece attached to his piano he would bite on so he could feel the vibrations from his playing, which helped his perception of the sound as he grew more deaf.

I saw the Phillies win the 2008 World Series and 2009 NL Championship in person! (check out my photos)

On a typical Friday night I am

I could be reading a book, out at the bar with my friends, watching TV, working at my job, dancing at a club, watching a movie, doing schoolwork, listening to music, playing board/card/video games, or doing something else (or some combination thereof). All sorts of possibilities with this one!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I was a band geek, and wouldn't trade it in for anything. My senior yearbook picture was me in my marching band uniform as we marched through Walt Disney World.

I have this REALLY bad habit of not logging off of OKCupid, and when someone IMs me, it looks like I'm on here, when I'm actually either sleeping (if it's late) or out doing something else. If you're one of those people who found that out first-hand, I'm sorry! Also, be aware that as a full-time college student, I have an inconsistent schedule, so I usually check between twice a day to once every couple of days. If I don't get back to you right this instant, DON'T PANIC!

I don't think I'm that much of a private person; if you have a question, feel free to ask. You're also welcome to ask me for my AIM screen name.

You should message me if

The usual guy isn't cutting it anymore; I make no claims to being a regular guy. I have been accused of being geeky, gentlemanly, dorky, endearing, nerdy, funny, and lots of other adjectives (and probably a couple of nouns as well).

If I sound like someone you might be interested in talking to, feel free to message me. I promise I won't bite! (my owners made sure I was housebroken and had ample toys to chew on before setting me loose on the world)
