My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a hopeful romantic...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
...the dance of disclosure and discovery that a conversation with someone new can be.
I'm also good at not saying things about myself that should be left for others to say (the sentence above notwithstanding).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You know, it's difficult to admit this (especially to myself). I think the first thing people notice about me is that I "look like Spike Lee". I don't think I look like Spike Lee but, evidently, the rest of the world does because I hear it at least three times a week from strangers. Even the guys I play basketball with have taken to calling me "Spike" as a nickname. I mean...really?!? Spike Lee?!?
I don't think so! I'm a good sport about it though...I usually respond by saying (in feigned immodesty and indignation) "Yeah, I'm what Spike Lee would look like if he were taller and better looking!"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: The Communist Manifesto, Antichrist, Things Fall Apart, The Collected Poems of e. e. cummings, The Collected Poems of Ezra Pound, A Simple Lust, The Problems of Philosophy, History of Political Theory, 1984...

Music: Hugh Masekela, Robin Thicke, Fela, Richie Havens, Gil Scott Heron, Quincy Jones, Sinatra (and the crooners of that era), Stevie, Michael, Marvin and Marley... soft rock, pop jazz, urban contemporay, world, singer/songwriters

Movies: I really enjoy movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Political thrillers and legal dramas draw me in like a fly to honey and I can be had by a good romantic comedy...The Caine Mutiny, Jesus Christ Superstar, My Cousin Vinnie, Richard Pryor: Omit The Logic (just saw that)...

Shows: The Daily Show, Colbert Report, The Young Turks, Rachel Maddow, David Letterman, Bill Maher, Homeland, The Newsroom, The Mentalist, Elementary...

Food: West African, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Indian (in that order). Mostly, lately, I juice with kombucha and eat nuts and berries in the morning, have chicken or fish with rice and vegetables for lunch and, for dinner, almost anything goes (in moderation).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Love, music/poetry, hope, yoga/meditation, sex and food (in no particular order)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...the state of man, the plight of the planet , which scarf to wear and how to wear it...these are important things to me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
There is no typical Friday for me. I could be out on a date, at the gym, out with friends or in bed reading or taking another stab at writing
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This should probably be filed under "most embarrassing thing" I'm willing to admit. I once waved to Stevie Wonder. In my (admittedly tenuous) defense, he was looking right at me. :)

...something resonates, a fancy is struck, you want to say hi and see what happens after that or you want to have a conversation over coffee (or whatever) and listen to a man "speechify" while thinking aloud
