I make my living as a writer, explaining my area of expertise to
those indulgent enough to listen. There's plenty of room to grow,
but I've been able to get to a good place (when I'm feeling
professionally stagnant, I remind myself that my teenage self would
be extremely proud of me). Through my job I am able to explore the
entirety of the United States, and a deep appreciation of American
culture both high and low is hardwired into my DNA.
I recently passed my 10th anniversary of living in NYC, and while
it's never going to be a totally ideal place to live I love it now
as much (or more) than I ever have. Let's go hang out in LaMonte
Young's Dream House, or look for Houdini's grave, or visit the New
York panorama, or go to the Museum of Television and Radio to watch
the first hour in which MTV was on the air, or try to find the only
Liberian restaurant in the five boroughs.
