My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi Folks,

Wellll.... I'm a pretty mellow guy, I guess. I have an intense job, so I like to relax and goof off in my down time. I love a good book, a nice romantic dinner, and hanging out with close friends. I toured in a rock and roll band playing bass from ages 18-30, and now I'm really looking for something more relaxed, something more intimate.

The ocean is a tremendous spiritual source for me. I remember when I first moved out to California from Virginia in 1994. My friends and I rented a place sight unseen in West Oakland. When we arrived, it was pretty bad and we thought that we had all made the biggest mistake ever. So, my friend Jim and I jumped in the car that we had driven across the country and headed west. I remember driving out through San Francisco and seeing the magnificence of the Pacific come into view. A feeling of relief and comfort and peace came over me, and I knew that things were going to be fine.

Now I'm back in the Southland, and driving to Cottonwood or Chattanooga or wherever, the rolling hills and green, everywhere green, makes me feel like I've come home.

Um... yeah, so anyways, I like pets, I like kids, I like getting into really deep conversations with folks. I play several musical instruments, and in general I think that my kind heart has survived.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to help folks out. My vocation and job is palliative and hospice chaplaincy. Mostly I accompany people through their sorrow and fear. There are some really beautiful moments in the hospital or at home, heartbreaking, but beautiful.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening to people. Reading several books at the same time. Laughing (my favorite thing to do). I'm also a pretty good cook, I think (even my five year old neice likes my sauteed asparagus with whole grain mustard...)

Well, let's see. I read voraciously and continuously. I read pretty much anything, also. I try to keep up with the Pulitzer prize winners. Currently in love with Huxley. I just reread The Great Gatsby, and it's still awesome. I like historical fiction, like Lonesome Dove, but I also just finished The Devil In The White City and The Girl at the Lion D'Or. Burroughs, Ian Fleming, Game of Thrones, Tolkien and every other fantasy book ever written...

Update... American Hustle is stunning. I can't believe it didn't win everything. Hunger Games is a current fav. I read the books, but in the films Jennifer Lawerence is amazing. Safety Not Guaranteed = Awesome. Beginners was really sweet, which I adore. I'm a big fan of romantic comedies, especially Return To Me and Notting Hill. I also like the big, over-the-top action movies, a la Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. I thought Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was very cool, but, of course, Daniel Craig is always fantastic. Skyfall was incredible, in case you haven't seen it. I've been waching a bunch of weird indie films recently, Red State, It's a Disaster, Blue Valentine, Waiting for Forever...weird stuff Netflix thinks that I'll like, and, oddly enough, I do.

Music, music, music... I was a music major, actually, all those years ago, and love a huge variety of stuff. The 90's will always hold a special place in my heart, Nirvana and Soundgarden especially. I grew up with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Bach and Beethoven make my heart sing. Mahler, Radiohead, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, The Smiths... Oh also, new bizarre pop covers of classics like Cultural Serial Killers and Nouvelle Vague..... Ahhhhhhh

I'll try most any kind of food. Some favorites are Sushi, yummy breakfast stuff, and Barbecue.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My ukulele, my computer, a toothbrush, a good book, comfy jeans, a trip to the coast.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
This is kind of absurd, but I watch a lot of movies and read a lot of books. I like to introduce plot twists that didn't happen and then spin out the book or the movie in a different direction, inserting the characters into my storyline instead of the author's. It's a bit silly, but I usually end up liking my movies and books better than the originals. Also, it's a good way to tell myself bedtime stories...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Oh, could be anything, I guess. I like to go out to dinner or hang out with my friends and family.

But besides that, I also am the number 3 contender for the Heavyweight Boxing championship, a qualifier for the Master's in the PGA, I play shortstop for the Oakland A's, and I'm the starting shooting guard for the Dallas Mavericks. What can I say, I keep myself busy.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Hmmm.... My last pet was a brown tabby named Bobo.
