My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hey, I'm Ben :)

At first, I can be a bit reserved around people I don't know very well, but once I get comfortable with others, I'm friendly and enjoy getting to know people and having a good chat, preferably accompanied by a nice beer or two :)

I love reading, writing, listening to music and spending time with friends, old and new.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Until recently I was doing a Masters degree in History down in Wellington, but I recently moved back up north to be with my family due to a bereavement, so things are sort of on hold at the moment. I'm hoping to get into some more study next year (hopefully back in Wellington, but we'll see).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Well, I love learning about history which is why I've been at uni studying it :P I'm also not bad at writing or so I've been told.

I think I'm pretty good at getting along with most people - I spent over a year flatting with six very different people and succeeded in staying on good terms with almost all of them, so that was quite an achievement, I thought!

I think I tend to be able to see things from different angles which means that if people come to me for advice, I can sometimes be quite useful at pointing out different ways to approach a problem. This is also a handy skill when studying history :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm not entirely sure, as that's not really a question I tend to ask people I meet...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Stuff by J.R.R. Tolkien, Cormac McCarthy, Hunter S. Thompson... The Great Gatsby, The Dark Tower series, A Song of Ice and Fire... I read manga from time to time too, but I'm getting pretty fussy about which ones these days. Also some webcomics, namely Homestuck and Achewood because they are awesome and crack me up. I get quite into non-fiction stuff like history books, which most people would probably find really boring, but I don't care - I like it :P Anything a bit interesting and thought-provoking I guess.

I'd have to say Tarantino movies are some of my favourites. Not that fond of more basic, straight up action movies as they tend to be a bit predictable, but every now and again I guess they're okay. I enjoy watching comedies, horror, drama, thrillers and anything that is done in an interesting way or has exceptional acting.

Shows: Some of my favourites are Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy and some of the Adult Swim cartoons like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021, just cos they're so weird and random. British comedies often crack me up, including Brasseye, League of Gentlemen, The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show and Snuffbox to name a few. I also watch documentaries sometimes if they look cool, particularly shows about animals or society.

Music: I have pretty varied musical tastes, I think - mostly classic rock, bluesy/folksy stuff and different kinds of metal would be what I sorta grew up listening to though. Stuff I like includes Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Mogwai, Electric Wizard, Cat Power, Tenacious D, Tool, The Offspring, Queens of the Stone Age, Sleep, Om, Alt-J, Refused, Sublime, The Kills, The Dead Weather, Deep Purple, Godspeed You Black Emperor! and The Prodigy.

Food: I'm not really too particular about what kind of food I eat. It just depends what I feel like at the time. Lasagne, bolognese and risottos are a few of my favourite meals though. Also fish, but that is about all that I will eat from the sea, lol.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Friends and family
2. Things to learn about
3. Internet
4. A positive outlook
5. Creativity (ok, not really a thing as such, but I wouldn't be me without it!) :P
6. A sense of humour
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Life in general really and where it might take me in the future. I spend a lot of time thinking about just random stuff that occurs to me - some of it is quite deep and meaningful, like the state of the world right now, etc., while other times it's just strange silliness that makes me chuckle a bit.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
These days probably at home relaxing. Occasionally, I might meet up with a friend for a drink or two.

I guess if you like what you've read so far and would like to have a chat and get to know me a little better.

I'm a pretty friendly guy really, so if you want to chat just say hello and I'll get back to you as soon as I can :)
