I am Divorced, a father of 3, and a new grandfather.

My Self-Summary

Since birth in Japan I've lived and worked all over the world. I don't much like the UK but this is where my Family lives and, much as I'd like to move to warmer climes in a less "big brother's watching you" country, I've promised my 14 year old son I shan't leave until he's at least 17- a boy needs his Dad! I've led a terrific life so far, but feel there has to be at least one (and maybe more) adventure around the corner. Love SCUBA diving and am a fair skier, have written 2 novels, one of which was published in the States. Sales very low, worst luck, so I have to rely on my day job as MD of a small company running up-market cruises in Turkey, the Greek Islands and the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. I just realised that if I write too much in this section, there won't be anything to write in the other sections of this fairly extensive profile section. Please read on if I've managed to pique your interest so far!

What I’m doing with my life

Recovering from major elective surgery that has had me laid up for the whole year. The last operation (at least I HOPE it's the last!) should take place in mid December. My firrst surgery (New Year's day) went badly wrong and I had to take an exciting (the kid in me) trip in an ambulance, lights flashing and siren wailing to an immediate emergency op in another hospital. Whilst in intensive care, I rceeived a call from the fire services telling me that the top 2 floors of my house had burned down. Not the best of news, even when dulled with morphine. It still hasn't been rebuilt but I hope it will be ready, like my body, for 2010. At least it has given me a chance to modernise many features at extra expense, but dealing with insurance adjusters isn't fun. Insurers are very fast at taking one's money, but exceedingly slow at putting things to rights when there is a disaster.... such is life. One ray of sunshine over the last year is that one of my daughters has blessed me with a grand-daughter, a sweet bundle of magic who can wrap me around her little finger (and she can't even talk yet). Time to move on to the next section...

I’m really good at

Writing (so I'm told), swimming, SCUBA diving (I used to be a marine biologist- coral reef specialist- and have worked for several years in the Philippines and a while in Kenya). Reasonable skiier. I like to throw myself wholeheartedly into single projects and am not much of a multi-tasker. I get on well with other cultures (religions and customs) but am not a great linguist. Does that mean I'm really good at being lazy??? I hope not. I love Family life but also like my own time and company.

The first things people usually notice about me

Green and direct eyes that can turn blue in the summer (depends if I'm in the tropics or not). Ability to concentrate and possessing a wealth of trivial knowledge. Quiet at first but quite easily brought out of my shell.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: An Innocent Millionaire and countless others of all genres;
Movies: One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and Some like it Hot;
Music: Classical and 60s to 80s but not rap or jungle. I like melodies and harmonies;
Food: Satay, beef stroganoff, most Chinese and Thai, mangoes and mangosteen.

Generally easy to please when it comes to reading, watching, listening and eating.

The six things I could never do without

Family, books (including reading glasses!), the sea, something to laugh about, PC (sad admission....), eroticism. Ok, and food plus water and a roof over my head!
