The dictionary has to be my favorite book; not much of a plot but a
great cast of characters! Otherwise, I like to read anything in
French, German and Italian, as languages are a passion.
As for movies, classics are always welcome. It is great to watch
Citizen Kane again and notice something new. Anything which teaches
me something and allow suspension of disbelief, which pretty much
rules out most mainstream flicks. Anything by the Coen Brothers or
Hitchcock. I usually find myself in the indie theaters, but
American History X is perhaps the most powerful movie I have seen.
The Shawshank Redemption had me tightly in its grip. Also Pulp
Fiction, Diva, Blade Runner, The Stuntman, Night of the Living
Dead...
Even though I resist being a slave to television shows, I can't
resist So You Think You Can Dance. Mad Men, Real Time with Bill
Maher, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert make me laugh about it all,
and TiVo enables it; did you know you can watch Jeopardy in 12
minutes with it!
I suppose I am all over the map in terms of music (my field). Bach
is my desert island composer, with Brahms a close second. My IPod
has Piazzola, Jobim, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Indigo Girls,
The Police, Martha and the Vandells, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles
and even Metallica's The Black Album. Always interested in
discovering a new artist.
The food choices I make are usually healthful, and I lean toward
eating lower on the chain, but I like a variety of ethnic foods. I
am not a big starch eater, but I have a weakness for biscotti. I am
usually game for any decent restaurant and can always find
something I like.
Where am I going to find that Salvadore Dalí hand-signed print I
have always wanted?
