My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
PREFACE: A lady friend once said that men come out of a vagina at birth and spend the rest of their lives trying to get back in. Based on what I've seen regarding articles about online dating, it looks like a bunch of guys online can't engage women in meaningful fashions online.
I shouldn't need to do this, but an apology on behalf of all the guys here who make you gals' experience here on OKC! and other dating sites a difficult one. Impatience at slow/non replies, cussing you out, showing dick pics, etc, is never attractive and it just makes the rest of us look bad. Guys who somehow end up reading this, I'm sure you don't want or 'need' someone to apologize for your boorish behavior, but it makes you look desperate and turns the gals off. Also, shirtless pics? Way to kill any intrigue and mystery, not to mention perpetuating the double standard wherein women aren't allowed to do the same.

So, apologies for the fools online, and apologies for the soapbox.

I love drawing and reading maps; I'm very geographically aware (yes, I can name the countries/states/capitols, but that's really not the point of geography). The various geographic aspects (cultural, environmental) of different regions is fascinating and makes travel and vacations rather interesting.
I love music, and play the clarinet family, sax family, am a tenor with a decent baritone bottom end, and play a bit of piano and pipe organ (mainly for composition). I transcribe and compose music, and love jazz, blues and classical, some rock. I'll listen to about anything though not as fond of hip hop and rap.
I also like to write.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm always trying to find a way to move ahead in life, see where that road takes me, whether its through music (and that symphony I'm trying to compose) or through other avenues.
I enjoy spending time with my friends (now really, who doesn't?), whether it's playing board games or crawling through Ape Cave up on Mt St Helens.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Drawing, reading maps. Giving directions (better reliability than Google Maps here; the nick-name "Tom-Tom" is deserved). Writing. I'm a firm believer in knowing proper spelling and grammar. Spelling 'you' as 'u', 'your' or 'you're' as 'ur', misusing 'your' and 'you're', 'its' and 'it's', 'to' and 'too' illicit rolled eyes.
Music. Natch :) Give me a clarinet, a saxophone or a keyboard and I'll play you something nice, I promise :)
Video games. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Civilization 4 and WoW.
Listening, patience.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm pretty nice. And that I can come out of left-field sometimes. Once you're used to it/prepared for it, it's no big deal.
Oh, and depending on the setting, that I've got some Instrument of Unusual Size (the contrabass clarinet or some keyless variant I've constructed...).

Overall: Is it good? I'm game.

Regarding music, I gravitate to classical. I can't even begin to say which composer is my favourite, though Mozart, Brahms and Copland are not in my Top 10 (and my Top 10 has more than 10 composer in it, including the likes of Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, and a few modern ones only band geeks and classical die-hards will know). But I do very much enjoy other genres of music; I simply don't go out of my way to listen to it. Major soft-spot for symphonies. I do have most of Pat Metheny's (fusing jazz) albums. And saw him and his ensemble live in 2005 at the Roseland!

This is one of those areas where it can devolve into a list all too easily. So... Firefly (and Serenity), Men in Black, Star Wars (Timothy Zahn's novels especially), Dune (I even enjoy aspects of both film adaptions), Idiocracy, Starship Troopers, Galaxy Quest, Fifth Element, Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Forum (was in the pit orchestra for that, and there was a special addition the last night that made the musical a favorite of mine), Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Shrek (the book, though the movie was excellent), Shakespear, Amélie, Harry Potter, Hitchhiker's Guide, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
No particular order:
A good story
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
New job with a pay raise over the last and steady hours... what are my plans going forward.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Game night with friends, playing video games, writing, and/or composing that symphony of mine. Practicing some licks on the 'licorice stick' (clarinet; tangent: I do not like licorice at all. You can have mine, please enjoy it for me!).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Fainted during a blood draw at the doctor's. The sight of blood does not bother me, but fasting beforehand per doctor's orders did me in.
