I am nonchelant, confident, and geeky.

My Self-Summary

Hooray for the continuous evolution of personal growth. Time for yet another update to "who I am." Turns out that not really knowing where you want to be isn't such a bad thing. I'm currently trying to decide what to do with all this stuff the Navy's taught me. For now, I'll ponder my penguins, drink my coffee (or tea as is increasingly becoming the case), and wander wherever and whenever I can. That wandering has been increasingly fruitful as of late. San Diego is a city that is providing me with pretty much everything I could want to get myself into just the right amount of trouble. I've also gotten into making up my own words... sometimes only a completely made up word can capture the precise feeling of a situation. That said, I'm currently deployed to Bahrain, so I'm not exactly getting into all that much trouble these days. Then again, not all that much doesn't mean trouble free....

Oh, Oh, and I like video games and comics (I'm an Ultimate Spider-Man fan among many others). Really, I'm just an uber geek in general. Except, for the military part. That part of me isn't very geeky at all... though I try to inject as much geek in it as possible. In fact, I take every opportunity when at an official gathering to interject at least one random Joss Whedon, Smallville or other fact. Admirals love it. I also take EXTREME pride in getting the whole wardroom addicted to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

What I’m doing with my life

Well, I finished my undergrad at Stanford University (B.S. in Symbolic Systems) and got a commission in the U.S. Navy. I'm currently part of MCM Crew Exultant (Assistant Chief Engineer) on board USS Dextrous in Bahrain. What I want to do once I get out of the Navy is still up in the air...

I’m really good at

Being patient.... extremely patient. It really takes a whole lot in order to convince me excited enough to loose my composure. A fact that has been tested time and again thanks to my "wonderful" job. Oh, and I'm fairly decent at most types of video games (though I'm a bit lacking when it comes to fighting games). At least, that's what I tell myself. I count the losses in some fighting games as anomalies (even if it is more often than not).

Generally, I don't focus on what I'm good at, but rather the "epic fails" of my life. Which is to say, since I average about three "epic fails" a day, I'm a fairly focused .

The first things people usually notice about me

Apparently it's my smile. Either that or the 5 foot llama I'm usually riding. And by 5 foot llama I mean...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Let's see here... Books: The Dark Tower series, The Tao of Pooh, World War Z, The Art of War, Ender's Game,The Dresden Files books, the Graywalker books

Movies: I'm restarting this list with a few more recent movies that I've seen. Definately, Maybe, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Casino Royale, and The Dark Knight. Oh, and I thought the new Star Trek was pretty fantabulous.

Music: I like pretty much everything, although some of my current/eternal favorites are Musiq, Matchbox 20, John Legend, John Mayer, and Yellowcard. There are plenty others, but I just don't like updating this list. Oh and I recently discovered Cobra Starship and am loving the hell out of them.

Food: Funny, I'm into all types of food, but I don't have any favorites.

The six things I could never do without

Money (no matter how immaterial one is... no one likes to live in a cardboard box [they leak when it rains]), laughter (regardless of who's laughing and why), geek culture (I feel everyone could use a little geek in their life), random occurrences (it's the random parts of life that make it worth living), iPod (I've regrown my addiction tether and now hate to be away from it), and irony (not that I have to worry about this disappearing from the world... but noticing truly ironic situations keep me supremely happy). These are in no particular order.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Oh buddy... what don't I think about?? Something I'm often curious about: Why aren't there any purple penguins? I mean, SURE you could say "predators would easily be able to pick them out against the backdrop of snow and sky" but honestly, what kind of answer is that?!? I think it's just because that would be too awesome... and such an awesome thing could never happen. Oh, and I think about what life is like for "normal" people. I mean, my life could be normal but listening to those around indicates otherwise. That said, I know that I'm only able to hear about the lives of a small number of people (relative to the world population)... so maybe I am normal just not in this environment. And this environment tends to constantly be the wrong one. On the serious side, I've been a bit focused on what to do once I leave the Navy. Still a ways off, but the possibilities are seemingly endless at this point.

Oh, and another focus point of my thoughts tends to be what to do when I get back to San Diego. That and how to end my homelessness. Due to circumstances that can be easily explained, I have all my stuff in storage and am looking for a place to live in San Diego. So far North Park seems like a nifty place, but the hunt continues!

On a typical Friday night I am

Let's see... that depends on... oh who am I kidding? I don't even have anything close to typical Friday nights. If I did, it would mean I'd have some semblance of routine in my life.... Also, as a point of fact, my Friday nights are actually on Thursday night. That's life in the middle east! More typical are non-duty Sunday nights... I love trivia night at a certain local bar (JJs)!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've always wanted to write something significant here... but still nothing. I feel I'm willing to admit anything if asked.

You should message me if

You're on the run from a pack of rabid llamas. Actually.... don't message me then, I think it would be more in your interest to keep running. Oh, and if you're looking for a movie buddy... my big screen thinks ill of me because I'm the only one who stares at it for hours on end. It would LOVE some extra company from those who aren't playing games on it (but it does enjoy company from those who do play games). Actually, since it's in storage while I'm on deployment, I bet it's upset with me for a whole slew of other reasons now. Another reason is if you want to explore San Diego. It's a new city for me and I'm all about discovery. Also if you have your business socks on (or if you just get that reference). At least, these are things I'll be looking forward to upon my return to the states...
