My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm laid-back and inquisitive with a bit of a nerdy streak. I like learning about new things; when I was a kid I'd read all the books in the library on a subject and then move on to the next one. Now I do the same thing on Wikipedia.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I just moved to Victoria to do my PhD in engineering and I'm eagerly anticipating telling people I'm "not that kind of doctor". Eventually I want to become a mad scientist coming up with outlandish schemes to take over the world. Failing that, I'd settle for being a researcher coming up with reasonable schemes for managing river systems.

When I'm not working I like to get outside: hiking, camping, and climbing in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Board games, especially Settlers of Catan. I'm also a pretty good baker and a better cook.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I'm really, really, ridiculously good looking.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I'm a fan of sci-fi and fantasy because I love getting lost in a world that is always different and usually cooler than reality. Standout favourites include The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and the Foundation trilogy. I recently got into a non-fiction kick and loved Thinking, Fast and Slow so I'll list it here too.

My favourite movie of all time is Jurassic Park. In hindsight I should have never seen that movie when it came out (I was four!) but I did and I loved it.

The last album I bought was by Kendrick Lamar and the last concert I went to was Zac Brown Band. I like plenty of stuff in between too.

I don't have a favourite food; it's all gravy
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Skype. My friends and I may have moved apart but we can still hang out over the internet!

Headphones. Sometimes I just need to rock out and I'm pretty sure my neighbours would kill me if I didn't have them.

A well stocked kitchen. In fact, I think I may be addicted to kitchen gadgets.

A comfortable chair/couch: something to melt into while watching TV.

My cell phone. I need it to navigate Victoria's labyrinthine streets.

Laser eye surgery. Partly because it fixed all my vision problems, partly because reshaping a cornea with a laser is really cool.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Recently I was given a very well decorated piece of cheesecake and while I was starving and it promised to be delicious, I also wanted to admire it. Then I realized where that saying comes from.

It's an experience that stuck with me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don't know if I have a typical Friday but my favourite Friday nights are spent setting up camp for a weekend adventure. More frequently I'm camping out in my living room with pirated HBO and a bowl of popcorn.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I can't snap my fingers. I've spent hours trying but no matter what I do there's just no sound.
