How to put myself into just a few paragraphs...

I decided to study physics to understand how the world works. I think all I've learned is that a full understanding will always be out of reach. That, and all living things are physicochemically the same.

I'm currently living in Lompoc but will be moving to Santa Barbara very shortly.

I have a Ph.D. in physics - does that count for something? Probably not... I'm currently teaching and more at UCSB while trying to begin a career. I'm hoping to stay in the area.

Listening, communicating ideas... jeopardy.

I'm a bit tall, I guess...

Books: Brave New World, Anything Vonnegut, Neverwhere, Shirley Jackson, The Giver, Catch 22, Forrest Gump (the book is rather different from the movie), The World According to Garp... After spending too many years with my head in science books I've been reading fiction books a lot more recently, mostly Kurt Vonnegut, but also plenty of other new and old books. I just read "A Canticle for Leibowitz" and enjoyed it - not sure if it's a favorite yet.

Movies: Amelie, Wag the Dog, Mulholland Drive, Cloud Atlas... I don't like horror movies, but I do have a special fondness for zombie movies.

Shows: Daria, Futurama, Arrested Development, Newsradio, Wonder Showzen, Cosmos, Look Around You, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Daily Show

Music: I like Bad Religion, Mountain Goats, Alcoholic Faith Mission, Portugal. The Man, The Weakerthans, Cloud Cult, John Frusciante, Propagandhi... I used to be way into punk but I've mellowed out a bit, though I still like music that is socially conscious.

Food: I love spicy food. I'm a vegetarian, though, which limits things a bit...
