My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Note: My hair is now long again. Also I am beginning to get white hairs in my beard. Currently they are invisible, mostly.

One of these days I'll manage to take a new picture where I don't look annoyed, but I haven't managed that yet. I have a rare talent for looking annoyed in photographs for no particular reason.

Should you find my dashing good looks and glittering intellect attractive or interesting, and thus desire to message me, I will probably respond.

Note however that I am murderously busy at the moment, due to teaching, moving, and doctorating generally. If I have rated you without sending you a message or anything, that's probably why.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Very slowly meeting new people in Seattle. It always takes me a long time to meet people in a new place, for a variety of reasons. I don't like intruding on other people, so I probably pass up a lot of opportunities to meet folks, I'm very picky about the quality of person I hang out with, and I can be kind of a hermit.

I am also currently working on my PhD, which can sort of consume my life on a moment's notice. I'm focused on urban ecosystems and how to make them more sustainable (though maybe not through the ways people normally think of).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
solving problems. At least, i think i am. It's something I enjoy, anyway.

Also, looking irritated in photographs. Truth. You've no idea how long it took me to take one where I don't look irritable. It's not necessarily indicative of my personality, I just have the male version of Resting Bitchface, I guess.

Being "More Compassionate" but "Less Kind", according to OKC.
Figger that one.

Getting irritated at the stupid, binary questions on OKC. I understand that they make matching people easier, algorithmically speaking, but life is almost never binary, and I hate having to smoosh subtle things into simple answers (especially since you and I might not do a smoosh the same way).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
For those of us without exceptionally stand-outish features, do we ever really know what people notice?

I'm tallish. I suppose people might notice I'm looking at them. Because I'm one of those types that looks at all the people around me, rather than pretending they don't exist. This might be from growing up in the Midwest, or it might be because I'm nosy.

Eventually it'll be my hair, as I am growing it out once again.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I am shit at favorites.

However, I do love a lot of things.

I love Tolkien, and Ursula LeGuin.
I love Killing Joke and Joy Division and Einstürzende Neubauten.
I love wheat-based food but can't eat it anymore (such sad, very hungry).
I love PBS.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
cats, ladies, curry, books, trees, science, music
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Rock and Roll. Who doesn't?

Also, science. Again, who doesn't think about science?
Even people who don't like science spend time thinking about it.

Space. Time. Situations in said. Life generally.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Probably in front of the computer, or a book, or possibly watching PBS, or in my office until stupid hours. Like now. Though today has a pretty high probability of not being a Friday, but I suspect you follow my logic.

Unless, of course, someone wants to do a thing. In which case I might be doing a thing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I keep thinking of things to put in here, and then forgetting them. This is perhaps more telling than anything I else I could put in here.
You should message me if

You find I'm an interesting person?
If you have a pony, on a boat, and want to go out on the ocean?

I cannot say what might motivate you.
Because I don't know you, yet.
