My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I read somewhere that one's personality can be shaped by the fictional character's they enjoy. If true I am an amalgamation of dozens of space captains, a 'who's who' of mad scientists, several Emporers, and a mix of valiant knights and swashbuckling rogues thrown in for good measure.

Although I like to imagine myself as some epic figure, I'm really just a geeky, gregarious, imaginative and introverted science guy getting by the best he can.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Tinkering with the building blocks of life as I pursue my PhD takes up about 89% of my time. I love being a graduate student and scientist. Everyday in lab I feel like a craftsmen, but rather working with wood or metal, my projects are on the molecular scale and do cool stuff like help cells divide or organize DNA.

Second only to science, I love fencing and martial arts. I am an organizer and instructor at a local club that studies Historical European Martial Arts and fencing. I usually have at least one 16th Century treatise on swordfighting on hand at any given time. Studying the elegant and sophisticated fighting arts used by Renaissance knights and soldiers putting them to use is a rigorous academic and physical pursuit that I find incredibly satisfying. (It also explains why I am usually covered in spectacular bruises).

During the rest of my free time, I am usually out with friends, playing bar trivia, visiting breweries, and generally trying to enjoy everything that San Diego has to offer.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being skeptical and rational.
Turning everything into a scientific experiment.
Listening and telling stories.
Dry humor.
Fighting and winning duels.
Putting things off 'till tomorrow. (I'll work on this last one, starting tomorrow.)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm as blond as a Lannister.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) Friends.
2) Good cheese and scotch
3) Stellar conversation
4) Podcasts and audiobooks.
5) A sword or literally anything (stick, wiffleball bat, towel rail) I can run fencing drills with.
6) Science!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I am often lost in my own thoughts, mulling over data from work, running fencing drills in my head, daydreaming in a far off world, or just trying to make sense of this one.

Get me started on certain topics and I could talk your ear off, because I've probably gone over it dozens of times in my head.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either, unwinding by grabbing a beer or a show at the local watering hole with some friends;
Geeking out and playing boardgames and RPGs;
Curling up with a glass of scotch and a good book in a comfy chair.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My Reddit username; ask for it and it's yours.

If you really want to see how my mind works, just look at my comment history. It's just a mess of fencing, biochemistry, and terrible jokes.
