My self-summary
38 years old, 5'8", living on the North side in Bucktown. Never married, no kids. Looking to meet for a drink or two, and see where things go.

Some random facts about me:

I've been told I'm "genuine." I guess it means what you see is what you get. I'm mostly an open book.

Grew up in a small Midwestern town. My high-school graduating class had only 80 kids. My friends who grew up in the 'burbs always seem to be amazed by this.

I'm one of five kids (second oldest).

Spent five years living in Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City. It was a great location, and I still miss being so close to the mountains.

Lived in Chicago since 2007, except for about an 8 month stretch in the 'burbs. Long story.

Not a big sports guy, just never really got into it growing up. I usually have some idea if the Bears won or lost, and maybe a general sense on how the Bulls are doing, but that's about it. I do follow NASCAR. Not religiously, but I will usually know who's on top from week to week. I'm not some crazed hillbilly redneck or anything, it's just kind of a guilty pleasure.

I'm a bit of an introvert, I guess, who has his extroverted moments from time to time.

I'm not looking for anything super-serious right off the bat. Would like to find someone to hang out with after work, go on the occasional trip, and just kind of enjoy spending time with each other. Life can be a pain sometimes, but it's a lot more bearable if you have a shoulder to lean on. Or at least someone to sit with in the bar and bitch about work with!

That said, I'm not opposed to finding something long term. I just feel like it's just dang tough to find someone you have that level of connection with.
What I’m doing with my life
Nerdy engineer-type stuff. Started a new job recently that has me working from home. It has it's challenges, but it is so nice to not have to go to the office in the morning.
I’m really good at
Fixing things.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I don't get a chance to read books as much as I would like, but when I do it's usually non-fiction. Most recent read was "Emergency Sex," a book about working for the UN in war-torn third-world countries in the 90's. Odd title, good book about the clash between well-meaning westerners and the reality of the 3rd world.

Movies: The Untouchables. I love how they were able to recreate 1930's Chicago. Also, I seem to love anything that deals with an individual going up against the monstrosity of government. Zero Dark Thirty and Spy Game are the first two that come to mind. I've spent a decent amount of time working for Uncle Sam, so these stories resonate with me.

Shows: I don't watch a lot of TV, but I love anything with a good story arc. I liked Justified, and I'm forever disappointed that Firefly was cancelled. Lately, I watch way too much Archer. I still find that show hilarious, no matter how many times I've seen an individual episode.

Food: I kinda have a thing for cheese. Coffee and a doughnut on Sunday morning is pretty much the best thing ever.

Music: Been listening to the "Emo" station on Pandora quite a bit lately.
The six things I could never do without
My family. I have four siblings, and they're awesome.

The internet. I'm eternally amazed that the wealth of the world's knowledge is at my fingertips.

A car. Because freedom. And because public trans in Chicago is kinda mediocre (when compared to the rest of the world).

My running shoes. A four mile run after work tends to put things in perspective.

Wide-open spaces. Because I was raised in the country.

A sense of adventure. Because I'd rather wish I hadn't done it, than wonder what if I did.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What does it all mean? Like, life and stuff?

The whole idea that I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, or live until I was 100. It's kinda sobering.

I think the personality section on this site is full of crap. I feel like it makes me look like an asshole.
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably just chilling at home, unwinding from the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
There is a question on here: Are you happy with your life? I'm always kinda amazed by the fact that 98% of you answer Yes. I answered No. I mean, I'm not necessarily unhappy, but dang, I'm not entirely happy either.
You should message me if
You'd be up for one of those fun, nervous, "getting to know one another over a couple drinks" kinda dates.

You actually want to go out on a date. Pen pals, and people who cancel at the last minute for dubious reasons need not apply. Seriously, what's up with this?
