I make a good living as a professional food server. It's really my
only vocational skill as I started working in restaurants in high
school and continued through college. It just worked out that
restaurant work is well suited for supporting those, like myself,
who made the questionable decision to pursue a career in music. I
might as well go to Hollywood and try to get discovered! Same odds.
It is my dream though and this one doesn't seem to want to go away.
In my 12 years in San Francisco I have played in several projects
to varying degrees of success. I've had the pleasure of touring the
west coast and performing many shows in the bay area. I have 1 full
length album and three EPs under my belt. I am a singer and guitar
player primarily but in my last two groups I played bass and love
love love playing drums. I'm long past the point of having
delusions of grandeur about suddenly becoming some huge rockstar
celebrity. Not that I don't have ambition, there's simply too many
very talented people doing amazing things. 99% never recognized for
it, yet we continue! A good friend of mine is in an awesome band
that sells out Bimbo's and The Great American Music Hall with an
army of devoted fans but half the year he's bussing tables and
taking odd jobs to squeak by. That's the way it is, I guess.
Regardless, I'm a "Lifer".
Outside of music my interests are broad. I love counter-culture.
I'm fascinated with science and astronomy. The sheer wonder of
occupying a body on earth. How and whys, great mysteries. I write
often and dabble in drawing and painting. I'm a movie freak. I'm
well read though it's been a couple of years since I've read
anything at all. I love comedy/comics. I come from a family of
ripping punsters and am quick with snarky comments and call backs.
A sense of humor is crucial. Without it life would be
unbearable.
I was raised Unitarian but am not a religious person. I consider
myself spiritually inclined but chose not to identify with any one
ideology. A bit of a mystic, really. Unconventional belief system,
always subject to change. If you have an active faith that
resembles anything like fundamentalist Christianity or any such
religion there's a good chance we won't get along.
And just to be clear right off the bat, I don't care for flags,
borders, wealth, war, violence, advertising, zoos, cars (especially
yellow hummer limos), Las Vegas, black licorice, arguing,
hospitals, musical theatre/dance performances, olives, the word
'should', waiting on people I know at work, blue jays, emoticons
and any use of 'lol' or the like... and the color yellow.
