My self-summary
I like to have fun, play cards and games, get together with friends for movies and dinner to discuss them, and just shoot the breeze.
I like various types of music (details below). I don't smoke, drink (much), or take drugs (lately). I read a lot. I like to cook, travel, hang out at home, do new things. My type is ENTP.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working at my fulltime technical writing job currently. I'm thinking about when would be a good time to retire, but so far I'm enjoying what I do. I spend time with my family, which takes some time, but no real responsibilities there, since even all my grandkids are almost grownup. I've lately been having a fantasy of getting some kind of RV rig and traveling around, maybe while still working. There's a lot to learn about RV-ing!
I’m really good at
Holding a conversation. I can interview people for writing assignments, and then write about what I learned. I'm pretty good at figuring things out and explaining them if needed. I'm a good listener. I'm pretty good at Cribbage and Scrabble, and other games that require thinking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I think they notice that I talk a lot. Maybe that I like humor, and that I make a lot of jokes. I'm interested in other people and like to hear their stories, so I ask questions, too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Neal Stephenson, Stephen King, Sue Grafton, A. S. Byatt, books on psychology and philosophy.
Movies: Dramas like L. A. Confidential, The Usual Suspects, The Matrix, Dangerous Liaisons, James Bond thrillers, Memento, foreign films, old Bogart/Bette Davis era films, Bollywood, science fiction
Food: Barbecue, Thai, Mediterranean, actually anything but seafood. I don't eat bread or pasta, but if the food includes meat and vegetables, I'll try it!
Music: Blues, Jazz, pop, alternative, classical (when the mood hits) big fan of Enya, Nora Jones, Enigma, The Supernatural CD of Santana, but no rap, not much of a country fan, although I do like Bonnie Raitt.
The six things I could never do without
1. Books
2. Somebody to love. I have a lot of love in my life with my three kids, grandkids, other family, and many friends, and I feel happy and content with the relationships I have with all of them. I would also like to have a special someone to be with, cuddle with, cook for, and share love with.
3. The Internet, information, being connected.
4. The ability to travel occasionally, to see something I never saw before, places, people, oceans, beaches, mountains. I don't get enough of this, but I love it when I get it.
5. Friends - I like to have people to talk with about their day, my day, the stuff of life that keeps on flowing.
6. Spirit - the mystery of it all.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Philosophy and the meaning of life. I was so busy for so many years, that now that things are slowing down in some ways, like family responsibilities, I find time to just think about the puzzle of it all. It's starting to make sense, and I'm pretty happy about that.
On a typical Friday night I am
going out with friends for movies, dinner, or some other activity like that. Other times, I'm on a trip for the weekend, or spending time with the family. Every now and then, I stay home and spend time with myself.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hmm. Interesting point. The word "private" implies that I wouldn't tell it, so this particular question is like an oxymoron. If I admit it here, it's not private anymore. So I guess it would have to be something like, "I never read the fine print when I accept the Terms of Service on my software upgrades." How's that?
I’m looking for
  • Straight guys only
  • Ages 55–70
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
you feel that we have enough in common to have a conversation. I think my pictures and my self-revelatory profile show an honest outline of who I am and what I'm looking for.
