So after being on OK Cupid for like 2 days I have had a date and am not particularily keen on answering a lot of further messages. So for now thank you OK cupid! Now you can read what I wrote before... I'll come back and change it up if I am available again.

When asked to describe myself I find myself at a loss for words. When I read the profiles of the ladies with whom I am a "match" it seems that they are far more interesting than me. But then I ponder and reflect and I realise that I will never be able to write a profile to match. If you are reading this now you may safely assume that I am much more interesting than you will perceive. When or if we have a conversation (and I have overcome my initial shyness) I should be able to match you thought for thought. This will cover all subjects other than auto mechanics and some related fields.

The thing I love most of all is parenting. My two eldest have reached adulthood more or less successfully and they are lovely young ladies. My son is 13, as tall as me, and challenges me in some way every day he spends with me (1/2 time). Some of those challenges are not crazy-making.

I also love time in the water. I swim, play water polo, and generally smell of chlorine more days than not. in my defense it is a very clean smell...

Then there is work. I love my work - more of a calling really... If you really want to know more then ask and I will be happy to share.

I'm a pretty good listener.

I am better than I would like to be at adapting myself to most situations. Sort of Zelig like, if you know what I mean.

Being able to participate in Monty Python recitations with minimal provocation.

Mental math, long division. Like anyone cares about that stuff anymore.

Being generally self depreciating.

When an adolescent people would make nose jokes about me. Then the rest of my head kind of caught up. I'm not sure that has been a good thing.

I do like to read and soon I will regain my time and ability to do so again. Looking at the bookshelf beside me I see a lot of Ian Rankin, Bernard Cornwell, Alexander McCall Smith, Douglas Adams, and Simon Winchester.

Musically I have not fully embraced MP3 technology. Call me a luddite and I will come and smash up your loom. As if I could find it. My CD's include Myles Davis, Tom Waits, Bela Fleck, Habib Koite as well as Iron and Wine, Calexico, The Shins, Souljah Fyah, and Black Uhuru. And a few others besides.

As for food I have rarely met food that I did not like. Especially if there is an appropriate wine to go with it. I do like my tea and will make a special trip to ensure my chocolate is dark, organic, and fairly traded.
