I am shy, sardonic, and opinionated.

My Self-Summary

I can't imagine why another person would find me interesting enough to seek a close, personal relationship. In judging others, I'm often highly critical of where they are in life, what they've achieved and where their ambitions lay. Those content to pump out a couple kids before age 25 and settle down are absolutely non-starters, intelligent women who've chosen instead to pursue advanced college degrees and engage rigorous fields of interest and challenging careers are, like, WHOAH: so alluring. A little intimidating, and I like that. I think we all do this to some extent, with various tolerances for incongruity between our own path in life and that of our partner.

This puts me in an uncomfortable place. I'm not unintelligent, but I'm lazy. I'm ambitious, but I'm scatterbrained and so damn lazy. Intelligent, interesting women are my primary interest, but I've accomplished little to prove myself by the same standards I'd expect in a partner.

I'm 25 and only now seriously considering academic studies. Beginning with classes at Ventura College, my goal is to get into scientific study. I love science. I haven't decided on what field, exactly -- I'm enamored with astronomy, but neuroscience is slowly taking hold as more interesting and offering greater potential for growth and achievement. My math skills are about as strong as a paper airplane, but I'm a firm believer in the idea that humans can, with perseverance and obsessive love for subject, retrain themselves to excel at most things.

Social life is nearly non-existent. I'm not a big drinker and don't enjoy clubs or dancing. Outdoor activities like hiking would be fantastic, but none of my current friends are into these and I'm way too shy and lame to seek out a local community.

Cursing isn't something I do often, and I have a very laid-back temperament. Overall, my relationships with people in my life are very warm and respectful. But I can also be derisive, stubborn and cold, and at times I've been frustratingly contrarian.

I love jogging, but I hate jogging.
I've been employed by the same company for nearly eight years.
I own two cats, Tycho and "the little one", and a dog named Malcolm.

Please feel free to shoot me a message here to add me on Facebook (same username, you'll figure it out). I'm always open to chatting with new people. As we grow older it seems to become more difficult to forge friendships, which makes each new connection invaluable.

Honestly, I expect no miracles.

And sorry, to those who're my age and already mothers. My intent wasn't to offend. Babies do look like Kuato, though.

What I’m doing with my life

Loaning it out five days at a time in exchange for monetary reward. Spending more time reading blogs in aggregate than sleeping.

Attending Ventura College with intent to transfer out to a university in a couple years.

I’m really good at

Making people uncomfortable.
Making MYSELF uncomfortable.
Making myself look foolish.

The first things people usually notice about me

What's the first thing you notice, reading this profile?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Reading is a beloved activity I don't indulge nearly as often as I'd like. Love both fiction and non-fiction. Lots of books about cosmology, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, philosophy, economics. Google Reader presents a huge distraction as I currently syndicate well over 100 feeds (mostly science, politics and economics). Really should do some trimming on that.

Movies: I love movies, but I'm extremely critical. Critical about most things, really, but it's worth mentioning for film because we're bound to disagree often. I don't like Tim Burton movies. 'The Road Warrior' is one of my all-time favorites. The 2005 Best Picture winner 'Crash' is one I keep on a special pedestal of disgust and contempt, but if I were creating a list of desert island movies it would include David Cronenberg's amazing and disturbing 1996 feature also titled 'Crash'. Don't even get me started on how I feel about 'Boondock Saints' (it ain't good).

Music: So much of my time the past seven years has been spent blowing whole paychecks on new music. I listen to loads, much of it "obscure." Obscurity isn't a selling point: the nature of the industry and popular music dictates that most -- over 90% -- of the stuff that's out there falls outside the "mainstream." So while I love Black Sabbath, Sonic Youth, Jeff Beck, Beatles, Blondie, Shakira, and Pink Floyd, they only represent a small portion of my interests.

I do listen to rap/hip-hop, I even like some country music. Bagpipes are orgasm-inducing (as long as they aren't playing "Amazing Grace" again), especially Swedish bagpipes. Lots of musique concrète, art/experimental, drone, noise stuff. Jazz across the ages, and blues (the stuff played by black people, on old, scratchy vinyl). Opera is fantastic. Acoustic, electric, whatever.

I love music. Its ability to inspire our imaginations and touch our deepest emotions is truly one of the most magical things on Earth. Sadly, I don't play an instrument. Learned violin and viola back in school, but that training has been lost to the currents of time. My plan is to take up something new, preferably clarinet, oboe, bagpipes, piano, guitar, or any combination thereof. Eventually.

Food: I'm a vegetarian, but not militant about it. You could probably get me to eat meat on unique occasions if you created enough incentive to do so (be ready to shoot for the stars), or put something on my plate that was unlike any dish I'd encountered before. Adventurousness with food is awesome.

Still love ice cream, and I love, love eggs. Nuts & grains, dried fruit, tofu and various vegetable protein-dense foods (ie. TVP), yogurt (especially the non-fat Greek yogurt from Trader Joe's).

Has this section been longer than my summary?

I still play video games, sometimes. Just wanted to throw that one in here.

Also, since it's not asked but seems relevant: I like some television shows. I almost never even turn the TV on and catch most of this stuff online or on DVD, but my favorites are: The Wire, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mad Men, Arrested Development, The Twilight Zone, Battlestar Galactica, Mythbusters, Looney Tunes.

The six things I could never do without

1. Water
2. Food
3. Heat, but not too much heat
4. Sunlight, but only just enough
5. Shoes. The barefoot life is not for me
6. Strong nuclear force

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything, which is much more problematic than it may seem.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually wearing pants. Though there are exceptions, on 99% of Fridays over the past 10 years, I have been dressed in pants.

The material composition and cut of the pants have varied, but all are pants still, and I have been wearing them. On Friday nights.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I love durian.

You should message me if

You wish to talk to me, or if you like Goldfish crackers.

I promise that I'm slightly more interesting and charming than I've let on here.
